Mixing dark trinity

Hi everybody ! I’m new in the elektron’s world , I bought the analog rytm in December 2016, and the analog four and octatrack followed … I follow this forum since i have my first elektron, and thanks to everyone , you learnt me lots of things . I wrote my first post because I encounter a “problem” for the stage of mixing with my trinity. I specify that I use the AR and the A4 in Input in the OT. If I have a kick in my AR and a bass in my A4, for example I have to go through ableton and overbridge to perfectly match my kick bass, with the technique of “eq mirror” for example, frequency 110Hz of my kick and in parallel lower the frequencies 110Hz on my bass), I can also do some cut or increase in some place , in the frequencies. With overbridge and daw it’s easy, so to make tracks it’s cool, but if I want to play live with only my trinity, without pc, my sound is not mixed properly, logic … So my question is: Is it possible to mix a little bit these sounds with the trinity only? there maybe a way of chaining more than 2 effect in the OT and getting something clean? with thru machine or neighbord maybe? I was only composing on daw before, and now I do cool tricks with my trinity, but I still hear that it lacks EQ, that is fighting some place, especially in low, and it disturbing me to not found a solution … thank’s for your replies, and sorry for the faults, I am french.

Using neighbor tracks with an EQ effect should help.

OK, thanks  ! Can you explain to me quickly how to use the neighbor machine? the manual doesn’t explain it clearly, and I find no explanation …

A neighbor machine is basically adding another layer of effects.
For example, if you have the RYTM coming in on track 1, you can put neighbor machines on track 2.
Track 1 will play through track 2.
No you can have 4 effects instead of 2.

I use a Thru Machine and 3 Neighbor Machines for the RYTM.
I use 1 Thru Machine and 1 Neighbor for the A4

At the end of the chain on my RYTM tracks, I have the DJ EQ.
For the A4 I just use a filter.

It doesn’t have to be that way, it’s just my example.

Thank you very much, I’ll try it

JuanSOLO has got the compact/economical solution for sure!

Another thought would be an outboard mixer. One maybe less popular solution that seems to suit me is the MOTU Traveler. (precisely because it retains the compact factor, but more so if you’re using a rack anyway)

I can set up an entire digital mixer from its 1u panel. 8 analog ins and outs, four ins being instrument/XLR inputs. (a bunch of adat i/o too) I send stereo mixes to mains, A4 effects in, and OT AB/CD.

You can edit and save mixer configurations with their software or, something that’s fairly unique, 100% through the panel if you build some menu diving skill. I enjoy the challenge, and frankly it’s not a bad ui. …and best of all they’re getting cheaper by the day…

Can you control the mixers parameters with OT midi tracks?

I WISH! It has a din input but it’s only an interface. :frowning:

There MAY be a roundabout way though. But you’d need to be plugged into a computer with their ‘CueMix’ software. I believe CueMix is compatible with midi control surfaces.

That’s too bad.
I’m totally done with computers and controllers when it comes to this stuff.

Ok for the neighbord machine it’s good ! But i’ve got one more question , now if I want to use only the ar and a4 and without overbridge and OT , it is possible without a mixer and only with the filters of the machines , of “pre mixed” that? for example on my A4 I have my bass and a low pass but I find the slope not stiff enough … And on my AR a kick with a high pass to cut the sub of the kick, it’s the same slope and not stiff enough: '( how do you do to regulate the filters of machines? Surely that the treatment must be done well before reaching the filter stage?
But I have a nice kick bass that I would not retouched to the setting of the oscillo, and only separated frequencies with my filters … that’s why my question.

Do you mean that with the motu traveler I can have my EQ settings ready in advance? kinds of EQ preset?
that every time I change my patterns, I also change the preset I recorded in advance in the motu, and everything is mix without me touching anything?

I bet if you could work out someting like a mixer midi scene change if you got in deep with CueMix via the software and midi control. Not in standalone mode though. I believe it’s possible to switch scenes (configurations) via the front panel, but I haven’t tried yet. Let me know if you do and it works! Thus far I’m working on building up my configurations more around PA and monitoring setups rather than around live mixing. …if that makes sense. The bulk of my mix is all pre-set aside from some muting and unmuting of channels going to the OT. I do volume control on each machine.
