Mixing and setting levels

Like a lot of elektronauts, I spend most of my time jamming with just 2 boxes (DT and ST). I tend to struggle with mixing and setting the levels right. For example, I use the DT for drums and feed the audio in to the ST and drive the whole mix (ST and DT) through the ST analogue drive. Is it best to set that drive early and mix in to that? Last night I was playing and was opening the filter on a ST synth line and my drums disappeared… Any tips appreciated.

It’ll always be a trade off. You’ll always get better results using a dedicated mixer

If you want to drive the whole signal more than just a tiny bit it’s a good idea to mix into it from the beginning or at an early stage.

I don’t know what kind of mods ST supports, but I assume at least modwheel/aftertouch, so a midi controller that can send one of them could help you setup macros for such cases, when opening the filter you obviously will get a volume boost so having a macro you can map both cutoff and volume to one knob and lower volume when opening the filter
