Yeah, so for me it was aiming to get some form of flexibility with a few stereo channels to run outboard gear through Ableton (whether on a send or direct channels), and not have to bother so much with latency, changing out cables and routing. I tend to work hybrid, with Ableton as the main clock and sequencer, whist using an Elektron box(es), with a few external devices. I think this is why such a device as the SSL BiG SiX exists, and I like that you do get the option to include the DAW in the workflow in a more seamless way. I also like using Overbridge for that same reason — the fact that there’s a hybrid option, to run your audio direct out from the device, or through USB audio is great. I’m not so sure that the Softube, or SSL controllers would fix this (however great they are), because although I like the hands on aspect, this is more about running the gear with some more versatility with bridging that ‘analog’ and digital workflow.
Are you talking about the two channel version with the crush function?
Yes exactly… That’s the 1971 Dam nice EQ and crush works well.
