Mix compressor

Hi everyone hope all is well with you all.

Ive searched the forum for this topis and couldnt find a post so i hope im not retreading old ground with this - i was looking for suggestions on a hardware compressor that would just give me a little glue to my mix. Im running an AK, AR, Sub Phatty and Prophet 6 through the OT and into a mixer at the mo and im just not happy that the sounds ‘gelling’ even with careful volume balancing. Prophets going into AK inputs and the SP is going into the AR input ( which is as we know pretty quiet!! ). I do t want to spend loads on it tbh - maybe im asking the earth and no such thing exists!!! But does anyone else use a compressor in this way or any other suggestions?
Thanks in advance people
Peace x

I’m happy with my FMR Really Nice Compressor and use it inserted over the master of my mixer. Got it for £80 secondhand too!

The limiter version also seem pretty popular.

There’s the RMS755 by Roll Music (don’t confuse that with Rolls, different company) that’s really awesome. I managed to score it for a good deal a while back and definitely recommend it. Here’s a couple of reviews of the unit…

What is wrong with the compressor on the Octatrack ?

good question! I also thinking about adding the RNC to my live set up … but on the other hand I have the Octratrack with the Compressor … hmm … do both sound so different?

I would understand a limiter, as this seems to be missing in the OT.

I think the OT compressor is pretty precise and doing his thing quiet ok.

I did not drive it very hard though, probably the analogue circuit does something interesting to the sound. (I would not say its a bad idea, i just wanted to know the reason.)

FMR RNC is a popular choice, good price as well

if you want a stereo bus compressor with ganged controls and very transparent compression I highly recommend the elysia xpressor. very popular stereo bus comp used by quite a few electronic producers.

another option is to go the UAD route and run some realtime plugs with the apollo interfaces. I was skeptical at first but they do sound great.

Much like yourself I had quite a few sound sources going through the OT and it can be a bit challenging to gain stage. the elysia dynamics units helped me immensely.

I like 500 series for this purpose, you can mix and match and create your own channel strip. Again, much more pricey than buying a pair of FMR units but the audio quality, transparency, and extra features of the elysia units make it a no brainer if you are willing to invest

I use Bug Brands Stereo Compress as a master bus compressor.

I like it a lot. Not really sure how it compares to the competition tho.

Good day to all,
I am looking into adding a compressor/limiter on the main outs of my MODEL1 mixer.
Looking into something to “glue” my mix
FMR RNLA?
Any advice welcome as this is kind of unknown territory to me.

There’s already plenty of advice and opinions for you, for example:

Thanks @PeterHanes
Was not sure what/where to look
Any personal advice though?

As a general rule, if you have a question, type it into the search box and you will probably find a lot of relevant material.
