Miserable git's general and non-specific (but very inclusive) whingeing thread - If you've got thoughts about stuff, I'm your guy

the fine is symbolic for a >100 billion a year revenue company, but for me the most disturbing part is that even with these details revealed people don’t give a fuck, they continue using these platforms as if their lives depend on it. my only conclusion is that these things are driven by pure addiction and no fine will stop it, only legislation and moderation might bring a change.
the only thing slowed down tobacco industry is getting fucked by the WHO, and unless they start treating these addictive platforms as dangerous no puny fines will change them.

anyone remembers “Instagram Kids”?
a version of the platform made exclusively for under 13
talking about get them hooked while they’re young…

luckily someone did give a fuck and stopped them. imagine that… instagram for kids… what the fuck.

  • We believe building “Instagram Kids” is the right thing to do, but we’re pausing the work.

  • We’ll use this time to work with parents, experts and policymakers to demonstrate the value and need for this product.

  • We’ll continue to build opt-in parental supervision tools for teens.

yeah, that was the day I closed my account over there. but apparently many people don’t see it the way I am and willing to do selfie videos for login…

I agree with you. I’m just annoyed to see how toothless the regulator is.

I’m only posting this thread link because that thread just linked here, and I wanted Schrödinger’s whinge, where you can never be sure which one you’ve clicked on, and which is the correct place to whinge.

Amy thread you like these days…

Are you permitting widespread whining, Fin? I’m always capable of spreading a bit of widespread misery…

I’m not in charge.

This is a disturbing turn of events. I already had my voting card all filled out and everything. “Reelect Fin for local magistrate” is the cry of the people.

That’s always what the real people in charge want you to think. I know your game.

I had a thought that what if Fin was short for Fingers of which he actually has 25, that would be the ultimate mindfuck. I’d like to draw a picture of the situation as it appears in my mind but somehow, I think that the idea would lose it’s elegance in the translation.

No, I’m the 25th Fin.

Not the last though.

To avoid the offtopic stuff that Ableton don’t need either-

Also a useful description, it’s sort of a collaborative calvinball of negativity and while I do engage indirectly with metadiscussion, any fun of speculation gets wrapped up in someone’s aura of dissatisfaction with anything.

It’s like, homeslice, buy it or don’t. We just don’t care.

Money won’t be an enema to unblock creative constipation, demanding a “new flagship” that includes every feature won’t have them making new music, it’s just a trap that they want everyone to give them attention for.

There are toxic patterns in any community where people want to engage with people on their own emotional truths and they find any vector they can, in this case it’s always what they deserve but can’t acquire and that hunger eats people up however it’s expressed, be it GAS or the volcel “crab bucket” whining sour grapes about women they’re entitled to. Wanting and never doing is what’s eating them up with little self-awareness.

My informal work Slack is now a banner telling me that I need to upgrade my browser. I’m on macOS Ventura, not even the latest version of that, and this is Safari, bundled with the OS. I have slowed down on updates (which I never did in a hurry anyway) because typically more old shit I want to use breaks than new shit I want to use. The work Slack is more like this thread, really, and I wouldn’t update operating systems for this thread. Bah.

(I read Elektronauts and other synth forums on Firefox. I can update that in the browser itself so I tend to be a little more ahead there. I could move the work Slack to Firefox. But then I have to fish my Slack password out of Safari and enter it into Firefox and remember how to tell Firefox to remember it. Too much effort.)

just do Import From Another Browser in Firefox File menu, easy as that, it should copy bookmarks and passwords

i’m trying to move everything from Chrome to Firefox since I’m trusting google less and less in their work to ban ublock and shove AI into everything, similarly while Apple shit the bed with including (local) generative trash, it’s not going to be the same data slurping factory that anything Microsoft is shilling as of late. I’m not happy with Apple’s directionless pivoting, but everyone else is shitting so much harder and the next version of Windows is going to be a nightmare of “CoPiloting” and multiple worsening UIs stapled together.

I suspect this is not fine-grained enough. I don’t want to import everything, just this one password. There’s a reason I do different things in different browsers.

Meanwhile Firefox is starting to pull dick moves like opt-out tracking, AI, and feuding with uBlock Origin. Maybe Elektron can release an Elektronauts app and I can stop using browsers entirely.

then you could just dump the passwords into csv from Safari File > Export > Passwords and copy the single username/password from there, just Cmd+Option+Delete the csv afterwards
