Miserable git's general and non-specific (but very inclusive) whingeing thread - If you've got thoughts about stuff, I'm your guy (Part 1)

Thanks! Just a skin, Buffalo Bill style.

Just covered them up with the new skin. All the samples still have them though.

Good news is, I think my impulse to buy things seems to have subsided. Could be temporary though, and I really don’t know what to do with myself even though there’s tons I could be doing (most of them not for fun). I don’t want to fall back to complaining online about random stuff, but given enough time and adverse outcomes, even games will burn me out. Guitar’s kinda fun but it’s also pretty involved as someone who doesn’t know their way round the fretboard yet.

I could also be far more rigorous with my job hunting efforts. I’m just feeling a little too drained. Maybe it’s the weird weather that’s been going on lately, I’m much more worried for those who can’t handle the heat after the cold spikes have passed.

My other half is out again tonight - at a neighbour’s party with most of the people we know from kids school, and where she’s been charged with doing the margaritas.

I’m at home on my own eating a sausage roll watching ‘I think you should leave’ again.

I know this is meant to be a thread for moaning, but sometimes it’s good to share a win.

I’m cooking for six! Totally jealous!

And here I am, working up the energy to slide off the couch to go get a lobster roll.

I’m about to start putting together a dresser I ordered. Organizing pieces around my living room, hoping the various screws and such are accounted for, already sweating and ready to give up.

Good to hear we’re all having a weird Saturday.

Weird is the only way I like my Saturdays!

Keep with the guitar if you can. I’m legit on the Hal Leonard beginner books and working my way through learning guitar. Slow process, but I’m loving it tbh

I helped one of my kids make a story from magazine clippings for school

This is a great story. Patrick, the outlaw with a heart of gold. Hope the pup turns out alright.

Patrick did nothing wrong. If you see him with a cartoon bag of cash, no you didn’t.

Patrick was totally with me during the hours of 8-9am when that one thing happened.

It is fun but slow. Don’t feel at all confident being able to do anything beyond just playing tabs I find online.

I once heard someone say that “Ikea” is Swedish for “argument.”

Of course, I’m the one weirdo who absolutely loves putting together flat pack furniture.

I guess whatever weird psychosis affects the people who write those instructions must also affect me because those things usually make total sense to me.

Everything else in my life is subjective and messy and I never feel like I have the right words. But with flat pack furniture instructions, there’s a clear goal, a finite set of steps, and most of the time there are no words at all. I could literally put that shit together all day and be happy.

yeah even the pictures in there are sometimes flat out like what is this language

This is a beautiful tribute to furniture assembly, I can relate. It is a satisfying experience to follow the simple instructions, solve tiny puzzles, end up with a tangible reward for your effort. My sweating/anxiety mostly comes from fear of making a mistake or breaking a piece etc. but in fact the actual experience is very enjoyable.

I did indeed make a few mistakes putting this dresser together but it feels solid enough. I sent a pic of it to a friend and he said, “Nice, now you can put music gear in there and continue to leave your clothes on the floor.” He knows me too well.

I was always fond of this one, published in Esquire about 20 years ago…

Just learned that a coworker’s house burned down early this morning. Nobody was hurt, but they lost everything. This is just a reminder to be safe and make sure all your important documents are kept in a fireproof box or in a safe deposit box and make sure your fire alarms are functional.

I should look into that. I haven’t replaced the battery since the little f****r woke me up in a panic just because the batteries were dead.
