Miserable git Vs Happy accidents

Could it be, that there is an underlying, general misconception of the term 'happy accident"?
As I understood it, Bob Ross was trying to change the angle on what is considered a mistake. Mainly to encourage people to go past early hurdles when attempting to properly learn a new craft and gain control over the necessary tools to achieve ones vision.
So yeah, depending on random generation to luck out while having no clue isn’t a happy accident at all. Just my 2cents…

Yeah.

That’s what I’m saying.

Turning mistakes and imperfections into features is all part of the artistic process.

But you don’t see Bob picking up a brush and saying “I love this brush, proper little happy accident brush, this is…”

Because Bob has figured out how to use his brushes.

I am happy as long as I don’t have a coffee accident.

So… what about zen painters like Zhu Da?
He was famous for getting drunk and throwing ink on paper.

What about them.

Do they insinuate that their gear has magical powers to cover up for a lack of skill/effort?

Nope, you‘re right.

So, I guess this isn’t the place to announce my new generative sweet spot randomizer happy accident machine

This is exactly the place.

“Happy accident” also sounds like an ominous mobster euphemism.

“Eyy, slick, better watch out for any … happy accidents.”

But seriously, let’s start calling happy accidents something else. Like “joyous mishaps”, “cheery tragedies”, or even “gay misadventures”

‘Luck is when preparation meets opportunity’ or something like that.

I will say though, I’m a sucker for synths (hardware or software) with patch randomizers. (or page randomization like the Elektrons) :+1:

The only happy accident I had was just before Christmas when a dick, probably on his phone, hurt my car’s ass at a considerable speed. So, instead of getting maybe 500-750$ in exchange for my piece of shit at a car dealer, my insurance company gave me 4000$ with 0% responsibility. I haven’t been hurt in the accident.

Forgive me being the hippy, but have I stumbled on Elektronauts’ toxic masculinity corner? Perhaps it’s all meant in mock-vitriolic for comic effect, but the idea that someone’s a twat and can fuck off for having the temerity to express an opinion on a synth, even if it’s an objectively flawed opinion, all seems a bit much.

No.

Well if you have to explain a joke…

Happy accident is just a way of exploring and learning… I get your point though if you deem something just for happy accidents you gave up on learning.

Maybe better to call it a fjuck around and find out machine. I mean only way to learn something actually new is to experiment until something you like happens and then try to make that happen again.

Should we all try to re invent music theory through happy accidents? Probably not unless you enjoy a lot of mess in your shorts.
