Do you find it the case when you put aside a day where all you intend to do is get to know your synths better and hopefully do something creative only to spend 2 hrs dealing with a corrupted SD card and spending another 3 hrs trying to figure out something that has to do with midi usually without finding a solution and then just spend the remainder of the time playing patches which you play every night as a sort of stress relief?

Getting into hardware I had this vision of a huge setup, but I’ve come to realize I just want to work with one hardware box at a time. And that they need to have patch recall, sequencer and FX. Pretty much a groovebox or sampler.

I’m just too lazy for anything else, and don’t want to spend the little time I have making music fixing technical problems. Midi CC is not for me

Nope my setup is pretty solid but if I’m composing or jamming and I inadvertedly touch my RNLA compressor there’s a very good chance I’ll forget about anything creative and just twiddle and A/B comp settings for the next hour…

I would never put in 5 hours of struggle over bad SD cards or midi. Hooking up midi should be straightforward, but I tend to mostly use it for sync and note info.

I also have a couple unopened SD cards, since they are so cheap. If I ever order something online like dog treats, I’ll add a $12 microSDcard for sh!t$ and g!gg/es.

But I do feel your pain. My suggestion is don’t try to better learn your synths. Treat them as musical strangers.

Nope. Just get everything hooked up and working correctly so that you just switch on and get to business. Templates for devices that have such things or just go with CV instead of midi. Whatever works for you. But make sure it works 99/100.

I’ve done that a few times but once it’s dialed there’s no need to keep fiddling.
Also helps to stick with a setup.
I also like using Bomes to identify what’s being sent from each device performing various functions.

I had some fresh SD cards here but the corrupted card was mini SD should of took a 15min walk to get one vs trying to format the corrupted one which kept locking up my computer

Since I wasn’t getting anywhere I decided to buy the MPC Bible and salvage my day with that but ended up taking a nap as the Indian food I had for lunch made me very very sleepy. On a positive note when I woke up I finally ordered a Furman’s power conditioner so I don’t have to juggle outlets next time

One of my best gear purchases ever.

I don’t have any issues with midi now that I learned how to set up the OT as midi host

I think troubleshooting is a big part of the learning process. I enjoy when those quirks show up (disclaimer : I only do Studio work, no Live shows). The feeling that you get when you defeat the bastards is really rewarding. These days, I don’t encounter very often any issues (my hybrid setup is rock solid and my knowledge has grown up on this) but I’m always ready for the challenge.

Weed and technical don’t go well together.

Soon no more unplugging the a/c and moving a stack of books to plug something in! I shall be so creative soon!
