does anyone else find it weird that you cant use the midi track trigs when youre actually on the midi side? I mean if youve got your trigs set to track rather than chromatic. you can trigger/ live record both audio tracks/midi tracks but if you press midi they dont work. why is this or am i doing something wrong?
I guess you had other gear like Digi, Model…
OT works differently.
8 audio tracks (T1-T8), 8 midi tracks (T1-T8)
IN AUDIO MODE
Track Trigs
Trigs 1-8 trigger Plays Free audio tracks (tracks T1-T8 can be played independently from sequencer)
Sample Trigs
Trigs 9-16 trigger track default sample (T1-T8)
Track buttons
If you press Track T1-T8 button + Play / stop, you can trigger / stop track machine
IN MIDI MODE
Track Trigs
Trigs 1-8 trigger Plays Free audio tracks (T1-T8)
Midi Trigs
Trigs 9-16 trigger Plays Free midi tracks (T1-T8)
You can trigger midi tracks independently from sequencer with Plays Free midi tracks, if you have trigs on tracks and activate Plays Free midi tracks, which allows you to trigger tracks with several options…
thanks mate, so to live record across multiple midi tracks using the trigs I need to set all the tracks to plays free?
Unfortunately not. Play Free tracks only trigger tracks already.
Btw if I remember correctly, you can’t record multiple tracks with midi tracks (possible with audio tracks). Which means you have to record track by track.
What is the gear you want to trigger ?
I’ve got (I think) a similar issue.
I’m using 4 MIDI tracks on the OT to sequence the 4 voices of a Pulsar-23. Each voice is triggered by one note (C3, D3, E3 and F3 in my case). I like having one MIDI track per voice.
What I’d like is to be able to trigger (and record) the Pulsar Voices from the OT step buttons. But they would actually trigger the 4 OT tracks. Currently the only way I know to trigger the voices from the OT is to select a MIDI track and set the trig mode to Chromatic. But if I use this mode to record, all the trigs will be recorded in the same track.
One idea comes to my mind : set 4 Plays Free midi tracks, play them with another track in chromatic mode, midi loopback, record. But in that case not sure if you can mute tracks independently.
Thanks for the idea !
Feels a bit cumbersome, but I’ll give it a shot.
I wish there was a “native” way, as OT is quite a great sequencer for drums.
