Midi sync over usb with Logic Pro?

Hi there,

it’s been years since I’ve used Logic Pro. Now I wanna sync the A4 to it via USB and I don’t know how to set it up. The A4 receives notes over midi but no clock, can’t make it to start the A4 playback/sequencer via Logic… I wish it was simple as it is in Ableton

Hi there,

make sure that Logic sends clock and A4 receives it. You need to setup the A4 in systems menu (if unknown).
Even Live doesn’t start the A4 if it’s not properly configured. :relaxed:

Yeah, that’s exactly what I cannot figure out right now: how to setup Logic…

Go to file menu>project settings>synchronization>midi and check the transmit to destination 1 box and choose your A4 in the selection below…

Yeah I did that. Still didn’t work. Would I need to configure the usb/midi thing at “audio midi setup” before?

no, that’s not neccassary since the A4 is class compliant. But AM-setup is useful to watch if any USB device is really connected. If it appears as active OSX has recognized it and Logic should do that as well.

Do you use the A4 with overbridge or as an ‘external midi device’?

If it’s on OB you could have a look at the setup in the VST window. There you’ll find the clock settings.

If it’s not on OB you have to ensure that OB-mode on the A4 is off and that it receives clock and anything else over USB.

I setup the A4 in a way that it works with Ableton. In Logic it doesn’t (I don’t use OB) eventhough I did the setup exactly as described above… Maybe I just go with midi clock over midi cable…

no, it doesn’t matter from which port clock is received, important is that you send DAW’s clock to exact that port which is shown in your device list and that the A4 is ready to work on this port.

When it runs with Live I guess the A4 is listening on USB (you won’t use an MIDI-USB-interface, right?). Beware that your device list possibly shows two A4 inputs, one of them is ‘AnalogFour MIDI In’. The other one, simply ‘ElektronAnalogFour’ is the one to choose for your clock.

Sorry, I’m on Cubase (somtimes LIVE), so I can’t tell you something about the specific setup of external devices in Logic.

Thanks! NOW it works. I had two different options for the A4 in the logic dropdown. Now it’s working fine…
