MIDI setup for OT with external gear

Hello,
I’m trying to setup my hardware synths with the OT in such a manner that I can use the OT for sampling / MIDI sequencing, but also be able to control my A4 from an external keyboard when needed. Thoughts?

Setup:
Controller Keyboard
OT
Analog 4
Analog Rytm
Prophet 6 desktop

The current MIDI cable layout is:
Controller out -> IN OT OUT -> IN A4 THRU-> IN AR THRU -> IN P6

Currently I can easily control the P6 module through the OT, but I’d like sometimes to be able to trigger A4 voices (though using only the A4 internal sequencer).

I feel like since the OT is using it’s OUT and no THRU there is no way for the MIDI events to reach the A4, unless I’m missing something?

Ugh, I think this was a brain fart moment. I just occurred to me I can setup channels 2-5 of the OT MIDI tracks to at the very least trigger the A4 voices. I just won’t record on those tracks. This works for the immediate needs, since the P6 isn’t multi-timbral, though ideally I wouldn’t need to do this.

If anyone has a means that keeps 4 of my OT tracks freed up, I’m happy to listen.

Thanks

Make sure to use midi channels 9-16 since audio uses 1-8 on the Octatrack.

You can also set the OT and AR’s auto channel.
For example I have my A4 auto channel set to 15, the AR to 14.
So on the OT, I can use 2 tracks for those.
Now whichever track is selected on the A4 and AR, my keyboard will play if my keyboard has the proper midi channel selected.

I’ve currently disabled the OT’s Audio Tracks listening to MIDI events since at the moment, the OT is a fancy MIDI sequencer in the setup. Once I start using the Audio tracks I will definitely need to change the OT’s midi channels

Juan, that’s a great idea!

Yeah, I completely disable the OT Audio/Midi stuff.
Maybe one day I’ll incorporate a use for it.
