I’ve been trying to find the right path for my signals in my studio, and I came close recently when I removed my KSP:
OT MIDI out to Pyramid MIDI in
Pyramid MIDI out to MIDI thru box
MIDI thru to DT2, Minifreak, Wavestate, Microcosm, Deluge, and PerformVE
I’m trying to preserve OT as the Master as that’s what seems to be the most solid per many posts/videos.
What I really want to work is to have my KSP also send into the Pyramid so I can play all of the boxes downstream. I bought a MIDI Solutions Merge, but when I got everything powered on my DT2 had its transport controls flipped: hitting Play on the OT did nothing, but once I hit Stop the DT2 would start.
I removed the Merge box and went back to the setup without the KSP but now this inverted transport control issue is persisting.
I know the OT transport data is sending through the Thru box as the Deluge and the Minifreak are getting the right info, I just don’t know why the DT2 isn’t.
Did the Merge box send too many MIDI data points and confuse something? Do I need to send the KSP MIDI into the OT without any tempo/transport data and pass that into the Pyramid that way? Why did the nature of how things worked without the KSP or Merge change once I reverted the wiring?
Any and all help is greatly appreciated, I’ve lurked on this forum for a while now and it’s been a huge source of great info, thanks!
Can’t really comment on your inverted transport controls. I’d probably say that if you have a midi usb hub (either dedicated or on your audio interface) you could use a midi monitor program and see what data is being sent when you hit stop (assume thats on the OT), or if it’s even coming from the OT at all.
Here’s something you could try with the keystep going through the octatrack out to the squarp.
From the squarp I think you’ll need to merge the out and the thru in order to both sequence and play the synths farther downstream. The keystep data will obviously come on the thru as will any sequencing, clock or transport done by the OT but anything the squarp is sequencing will need to come from the out port.
Basically, to get the keystep to play a synth which pyramid is sequencing, I think it will need signals from both midi out and thru of the squarp unless it has a configuration menu that allows you to do something similar to the octatrack midi routing setup in that post I linked. I don’t know enough about the squarp to tell you what it can or can’t do.
This is what makes sense to me though, hopefully that might help.
