Midi Merge

Good evening to all…
I’m new in this forum but
I hope you’ll be able to solve this silly matter.
I introduce my gear list
Octatrack latest OS
Esi MicroMerge
Master Keyboard
Bitstream 3x
Waldorf Blofeld

I wish I could control my Blofeld through my midi merge box: so I have connected my octatrack, the master key, and the Bitstream controller to my midi merge box.

Nothing strange uh … but while the bitstream and the master keyboard seem to get through the merge box, only a few notes are able to reach the synth from the octatracks midi page.

I wish I could use everything without the help of a laptop…
would any of you have some good advice?

Thanks in advance Mat from Italy

Hi Mat!

Would you like to elaborate a little bit more regarding this?
What are you trying to acheive with your OT in this manner?

/Mike

Hello Mike
thanks for asking!

I’m trying to play my Blofeld synth through the Ot with some sequence (let’s say one sequence on the first MIDI channel) and to play over it with my Master Keyboard on another Midi Channel while changing some parameter of one of two synthezisers.

What happens is that I can play my master key with no problems at all, and I can change any parameter I need to with the Bitstream, but I get just a few random notes out of the Ot.

If I exclude everything out and connect the Ot directly to teh synth … the sequences are OK.

Why is my MIDI merge box not merging the Ot Sequences… or is it because the Ot is too weak in power ?
I still try to solve this issue … but no clue came to my mind till now

remember one thing … I would be happier to use no computer at all in this process… especially if I think of a live performance

Thanks in advance Mattia

This is interesting. I have been using my DrumKat as a MIDI merge box. It has 2 ins and 4 outs. I’ve been using the OT to sequence my MS-20 Mini and my Modular through a MIDI/CV box (Qunexus). The MS-20 Mini always seems to get the notes I’m sending but the Modular would be hit or miss. I thought for sure it was the Qunexus as it’s new and might still need a few tweaks to the firmware. I still believe that. Just wanted to chime in in case others are having issues and it ends up being and OT issue after all.
I would think the Elektron gear to be quite solid int he MIDI dept. . . but what do I know? I’ve only really started dealing with hardware again in the last couple of years and only bought the Elektron boxes within the last 10 months.

I’m going to try a different set up this weekend as I recently purchased an old Kawai MIDI router.

I´m just thinking out loud here, not really sure of what could be the culprit:
perhaps it could be that the midimerge gets somewhat choked of the midistream?

Other things that crosses my mind:

Any midi control of audio channels in OT?
Any control of midi tracks?
Any of above sharing the same midi channel?
If they do, see page 111 in manual regarding channel priority etc…

What´s the project setting regarding midi control (see page 41 in manual), in other words, does the OT transmit knob movements from its tracks?

Setup of auto channel?
Setup of CC direct connect?

How are your units connected, back and forth?

An computer could still be useful if used to analyze what kind of midistream that are actually sent, MidiOx could be useful to monitoring the stream in this purpose.

Good news…
as I thought the problem was due to the Esi micro merge,
it wasn’t working very well…
Now I’m trying my set up with a quadra merge by MIDI solutions
and everything seem to work fine…
thank you all for the support.

Great Forum!!

Hi There-
Are you powering the Midi-Solutions box with the Octatrack over the Midi cable?
The answer to this question will help me a lot.
Thanks in advance.
