Hey all, I am new to Digitone II, I am working out how to setup midi learn with iPad apps. I have the iPad and DNII connected through USB, I have attempted to setup MIDI IN/OUT on the same channel as the MIDI Machine on the DTII, but it is not picking up any CC messages. Any ideas? Thanks!
Check your Port Config in MIDI settings. Scroll to the bottom and make sure you have Receive Notes and Receive CC/NRPN boxes checked.
There is also a setting for USB+midi in the settings menu that needs to be checked. If you’re successfully using the digitone keyboard to control the ipad app then it must already be set for USB but I’m not clear on whether you’re getting zero read from the dn or just not getting midi learn with the apps.
Thanks for the tips. To be clear, I’m having no issues w/ the general connection between the DNII and the iPad. This is specific to MIDI learn. I have receive notes and receive CC/NRPN turned on as well as the correct midi channel configured, but midi learn doesn’t work. In general midi learn seems really flaky on DNII.
How are you doing it?
On DN OG, I just enable a Value knob on DN midi track, then highlight the knob to control on iPad, twist and it’s learned.
Maybe it’s different on 2, I’m not sure.
Digging deeper, on Animoog Z it works the way you’ve described after setting the midi output channel to to back to the DNII. It seems the issue is that a majority of apps don’t return midi and neither do Audio Units. This is across iPad and Mac. Maybe Ableton is more flexible than Logic with this.
