I’m looking for the simplest midi keyboard (not a full daw controler) with velocity, aftertouch, full keys size, and something in the 60+ keys, I don’t need a 88 keys but wouldn’t mind if that is my only option.
I’ve looked around and there is a lot of small cool keyboard, and lot of bigger DAWish controller (with pads and other controls) but I couldn’t find a lot of midi only type of controller. Am I missing something? Asking too much for aftertouch ?
Yeah I went around the usual m-audio/korg/arturia… and some of their high end have after touch but most of them have the whole pad/slider/crap thing on top…
So far I see that Doepfer as something pretty sweet although in the >2k budget (cad)… but getting tempted by studiologic controler too.
I didn’t know yamaha had controler too… I’ll have a look.
There is the QKB. Basic MIDI keyboard but it sounds like that is what you want.
There is a 5-octave (61-key) configuration with a Fatar semi-weighted keybed, metal frame and solid wooden sides. It has Channel pressure, or as you call it aftertouch. No other controls unless you want to add that.
Seems like keyboard controller makers gotta have some DAW in it somewhere.
Reminds me of the Monty Python Spam Skit, with the Viking chorus :
A husband and wife in a restaurant …
Wife: Have you got anything without DAW? Waitress: Well, there’s DAW egg sausage and DAW, that’s not got much DAW in it. Wife: I don’t want ANY DAW! Man: Why can’t she have egg bacon DAW and sausage? Wife: THAT’S got DAW in it! Man: Hasn’t got as much DAW in it as DAW egg sausage and DAW, has it? Vikings: DAW, DAW, DAW, DAW ( crescendo )
Nowadays I think the Korg Keystage 61 is a good candidate. It has poly aftertouch and MIDI 2.0 if that’s interesting. Even though it has knobs and transport controls, it’s way more subtle than your average RGB pad MIDI keyboard. A bit expensive though.
