Midi Help?

Hi there folks,

hope your doing well? New to my RYTM but love it!

Just had a question, I’m looking to write patterns in Ableton and send midi out to RYTM, how do I do this? I’ve done the obvious stuff with no joy, updated to the very recent OS and still it doesn’t work? I’m using C-2 for kick drum, how should I set up the channels etc. Any info would be great?

I also wondered if anyone knows how to use program changes to change the kits on the machine and how to change the patterns independently of each other (as an option).

Any help is greatly appreciated,

Many thanks M

Generally this is quite easy to accomplish.

In Ableton I would

  1. create an empty drum-rack

  2. set the drum-rack voices (name them kick, snare, etc.) to send midi out on the midi channels according to the settings of the AR (factory setup would be AR-Track1 = midi-channel 1,
    AR-Track2 = midi-channel 2 and so forth … check the <Global Menu/Midi Config/Midi Channels> on the AR)

In Ableton you can use <Instruments/External Instrument> to set the voice per track in the drum-rack.

Once your drum-rack does what it is supposed to do, you can create a template and relaod it with every new project.

Connect your computer and the AR with USB or Midi, check that all midi ports are set correct (activate the AR midi in Ableton) and with a little help from the Ableton and AR manuals you should be successful.

If you want to control more, check out Appendix C: Midi in the AR manual.

I Hope this was at least some help to get it started …

Kits are tied to Patterns. Patterns are swapped by program change, send to the auto channel … this is in the manual, you really need to go through that to get the most out of learning all the joys. Each Track on RYTM responds to a different channel .I doubt the default note is the lowest MIDI note, there is a 4 octave range around which the default is centred, again, this will be in the manual.
