I am trying to trigger an external synth via the octa.
I have ensured midi is set to send and receive transport and clock.
I have set the midi channel to 1 and ensured the external synth is also on that channel.
I have ensured the midi note set up is set to chan 1 on the midi track.
Yet when I program a sequence with notes the synth receives no signal.
If play the midi keyboard on the Oct outside of step sequence mode the synth does receive a midi signal yet does not make a sound.
The synth receives midi notes fine from ableton and my analog rytm and plays sound.
Why is this so difficult? I have read the instructions and my set up should be working
This sounds like you have muted the MIDI track. When a track is muted programmed trigs will not execute, but you can still use the trig buttons to send notes. Check the mixer menu for any muted (or solo’d) tracks.
Try setting the synth to midi channel 9.
The audiotracks default to midi channel 1-8, so these midi channels are already used by the audiotracks. This behavior can be configured or turned off in the midi settings though.
That’s not his problem, because he only wants to send from the MIDI track (which is okay even with a shared MIDI channel).
From the manual:
If an audio track and a MIDI track share the same MIDI channel, the MIDI track will block the audio track from sending out data while the audio track will block the MIDI track from receiving data.
I found that my midi track did infect share the same midi info as my audio track ! And it was getting blocked. I thought I had ruled this out, but obviously not!
Thanks
