Sorry for my “synth and midi blondness” hope someone can help! Thank a zillion in Advance!

Hello,

This is fairly straightforward to do. Now keep in mind I used to own both of these and did this, but I do not own either anymore so I’m going to try to help from memory.

Your setup should be like this:

Physical:
One TRS cable from model cycles midi out port to microfreak midi in port.

PS I saw you wrote dongles. You don’t need dongles for this. Just use a standard aux cable and make your life simple. But if you don’t have one and don’t want to get one, you can use the dongles that came with the Cycles and Microfreak. With a standard MIDI cable between. If you do this choose Polarity: Std on cycles.

Microfreak midi settings:
external clock sync from midi (cycles will control it)
Midi In channel 6 (for receiving notes) I chose 6 because you’ll be using track 6 on cycles but this can be anything as long as it matches what channel you choose on Cycles for track output.

Cycles midi settings:
section 9.4 and 12.3 in the manual: https://cdn.www.elektron.se/media/downloads/model-cycles/Model-Cycles-User-Manual_ENG_OS1.13_210602.pdf#page27
Midi clock OUT: ON. Clock IN: OFF
Midi out (not thru)
Track 6 midi to output (MOut checked in track menu for track 6)
midi channel for track 6 set to 6 in midi menu (as long as it matches what you set microfreak midi INPUT channel to be)
Polarity should be set to INV as microfreak uses B standard and not A like cycles.

Wonderful Chrisdanger thx a lot for your input!
REALLY APPRECIATED
It appears to work!!!
My current settings are

CYCLES MIDI MENU

MIDI SYNC

OFF clk in (1/4) >**ON clk out (2/4)
ON / OFF PCH in (3/4)
ON / OFF PCH out (3/4)

MIDI OUT CHAN

T6 > OUT

MIDI PORTS

IN CHAN Off >
OUT CHAN MIDI
OUT POLARITY: INV
Out/THRU: OUT

CYCLES TRACK (in my case 6)

MENU SETTINGS
Mout ON (Track 6

) MIDI FILTER (sorry missed that one in first post)
Rcv Note OFF
RcV CC OFF
Encs INT

MICROFREAK MIDI MENU
On the MF there is a midi menu with

Input Chan set to 6 >Output Chan
Output destination MIDI
LCAL ON >Arp/Seq ON
Thru OFF
Knob sens CCs ON
Merge USB-KBD (can also be MIDI-KBD or Both)

The only clock settings on the MF I found here under Sync…
was no option for "ext clock midi " so hope I did right!
MF Menu
Sync > Source ( MIDI , other options are int, usb, clock, auto) Sync > Clock 24PPQ (options default, other options: one step 2ppq, 48ppq) Sync> Global Tempo OFF /onx

Hope I didn’t make any stupid mistakes since most of it is new to me! …

That all looks good! Any settings I didn’t mention don’t need to be adjusted and can be left at their defaults. Glad you got it working :mechanical_arm:
