MIDI/CV + Octatrack = Cirklon . . . kinda

Was watching videos for the Cirklon last night and got to thinking the Octatrack could do some cool shit too (with an OS upgrade) and a MIDI/CV box.
The problem I’m seeing is that most MIDI/CV converters are so basic. They are set up for maybe a couple of channels and rarely have extra CV outs.
It would be cool if one of the smarty/DIY types built a box or rack unit that was able to multiple channels with tons of extra MIDI/CV outs that can be used with MIDI CC messages from the OT!

Are MIDI/CV circuits difficult? With all the Arduino/Pi type stuff floating around I would think this could be done more affordably than ever before.

4 x Pitch CV
4 x Gate CV
1 x Clock
1 x reset
20 x Assignable CV!
It could be awesome!

Just a thought. About time I post something where I’m not hating on Elektron for ignoring all of their users.

Check out hexinveter’s midi2cv diy project… Certainly does not have 20 cc outs, but has some of the options you mentioned… And it’s dirt cheap (comparatively)

As Im getting into Euro I have related the OT to other tasks but Id prefer it as my main suquencer (well one of the aha moments has been I need mutiple sequencers) _ There is the MIdialf that has a CV expander and the code is based on Mutable Instruments Midipal so its rock solid

I suppose you want a link. http://midisizer.com/midialf/midialfcv-extension-board/

Matic - I have a Mutable Yarns. I don’t think the Hex module would do much more.

Dogma - I don’t quite understand the MIDIAlf/CV. It seems to be hardwired to the MIDIAlf sequencer.

There are some older racks that would do what I want but they are not very easy to find.

I don’t think a little Haterade is bad. I’m empathetic to Elektron as a small company in a niche market, but as their star has risen in the last 2 years so have expectations for what they will deliver, and if a balance cannot be met it will hurt them in the long run. I know they have taken more flack in the last year as they adapt to the growing pains of creating 2.5 new products while the available stock and “support” dwindles to zero, but hopefully they will have it sorted by the end of 2015. Until then, I don’t see anything wrong with some tactful persistence from the existing user base.

If you don’t mind a little DIY, maybe something like the Highly Liquid MD24 would work for you: http://store.highlyliquid.com/collections/midi-decoders/products/md24

I used their MPA board to add MIDI control over a front panel button in a TX-816 and it was an easy-to-solder, easy to set up board.

I don’t mind a little DIY. I can physically do whatever, but I don’t necessarily have the know how for some builds. I really wish I did. I have so many ideas in my head that I can’t bring to life!
Is this thing a straight up MIDI/CV box? . . . minus the box and wiring and jacks or do I need to learn how to program stuff?
Accent - I just get a little peeved when I spend my money to end up being an unpaid beta tester for years at a time. This never used to happen and now it’s standard operating procedure for most companies. Not cool.

this might be close to what you are looking for:

oldgearguy - I’m not quite sure but it looks like the MD24 might only be good for note to trigger type stuff.

This is closer to what I’m looking for but they are out of production and were buggy.

Surprised no one has mentioned Kenton:

Been around for years, well regarded.

FWIW, one thing you won’t get triggering CV via MIDI is zero latency, which the Cirklon will do. Most useful for triggering tight drum sequences consisting of multiple layers per part - useless via MIDI, the timing is to sloppy.
