Midi connection with other gear

Hi,

I need your help to find the best way to set up my gear with midi, I have a problem with the octatrack playing

I want my master keyboard to play the 4 tracks of my Analog 4. This already works (Channels 1 to 4).

Next, I want to play the waldorf pulse 2 with the master keyboard AND with the octatrack (midi sequencing). Is this even possible??? If yes, how? Can’t get it working.

I do got the midi sequencing with the octatrack right, but I don’t get them both working (octrack midi sequencing and master keyboard playing the waldorf pulse 2 synth)

Thank You

If I would be in your situation, I would do it as following:

Master Keyboard - set to MIDI channel 9

Octatrack - send clock, leave MIDI channels 1-8 for audio, MIDI channel 9 as auto-channel, MIDI tracks 10-16 used for tracking of other modules

A4 - receive clock, send clock, assign voices/tracks to channels 10-13

AR - receive clock, send clock

WP2 - receive clock, listen to channel 14

I don’t have neither A4/AR nor WP2 but I guess you can assign the listening channels on them. Good luck!

Edit: If you connect it like above you should be able to select your desired MIDI track on Octatrack and play/record your pre-configured instrument through that channel. If you i.e. want to layer WP2 with one of the A4 voices you could just set them to listen to the same MIDI channel.

It works! Don’t know what the AUTO channel is for but it works like this. I disabled the midi tracks note recieving on the Analog rytm because there’s no need for this.
Do you know why I can’t control the CC’s of the waldorf in the OCTATRACK, when i TURN the CC encoder knob it doesn’t change the value, it says OFF. And In chromatic mode, how do change the octave of the “keyboard”?.

Any MIDI input on the AUTO channel is automatically directed to the currently-selected track. See page 43 of the manual.

Did you hold [FUNCTION] and press the relevant DATA ENTRY knob as described on page 116 of the manual?

Press {FUNCTION] and either [LEFT] or {RIGHT]. See page 83 of the manual.

  1. Don’t quite understand it yet, still some crazy shit going on, things I can’t even explain (one of them is that the octatrack transport starts while in midi config transport recieve is off)
  2. Thank you

I´m guessing the sequencer are being controlled by notes (in manual Appendix C: Midi Control)… ?

Seq Stop: note A (33)
Seq Start: note A# (34)
Seq Start/Restart: note B (35)

sorry if i revive such an old post…

I’m in a similar situation (the sound module is the digitone).
Is there any way to jam with the digitone while not having the specific midi track selected?
I wish to “hardlink” a midi channel from the keyboard to the OT’s midi tracks without having to arm it. Otherwise i can’t jam with OT while playing with the keyboard

What about a keyboard with knobs, several channels, in order to control OT parameters?

I don’t want a new keyb/controller, I’m fine with OT controls. I just need to have a fixed midi routing from my keyboard to my desired midi track
