Hi all. I have an old Suzuki Qchord that I had midi to my friends elektron machine drum. It time synced perfect. I’m using the same instrument through my digitakt but haven’t a clue how to configure the settings. Any help greatly appreciated.
Welcome @Mantismike
If you want Digitakt master clock, check SEND for CLOCK and TRANSPORT in MIDI CONFIG > SYNC menu.
Set the Suzuki to slave/ext clock…
If you want Digitakt slaved, check RECEIVE for CLOCK and TRANSPORT in MIDI CONFIG > SYNC menu.
Set the Suzuki to master/int clock…
Thanks mate I’ll give it a try. There’s no settings on the qchord as it’s pretty old.
There likely is if you can find a copy of the manual.
In addition to the information given by sezare56, the Qchord apparently has fixed midi channels per function so this may also be useful.
You’d have to check the manual about transport and clock sync, I expect that it auto detects them or they’re “always on” but I don’t know directly. If your friend configured it, you should ask if they did something to set up the q chord and prepare it for midi sync, otherwise just enabling clock and transport send on digitakt might be enough.
Looks like an old style of bluetooth earpiece.
I had a few synths with no local control, like waldorf rocket and some older stuff. Rocket does have a way to set the midi channel, but I’ve also had an omni-only device like this, which is a pain to use with other gear but fine for a one-on-one connection like in this instance.
Can’t remember the exact model of earpiece but it’s something like an old logitech, very similar shape.
I don’t think “Multi timbrel” is a good sing of the quality of the manual. The mono directionality does seem weird also
I think that it’s only got midi in or out (at one time) due to the midi strum controller functionality. The autochord stuff and the midi strum parts are probably somehow inseparable in how it triggers notes/chords. Just guessing but probably was simpler to code it that way or something.
Quirky instrument, this and omnichord.
Thanks mate. I can get the sounds from the qchord onto the midi tracks of the digitakt. Still no time sync though
Cheers mate. Still can’t get the clock sync working. Can get the sounds from qchord onto midi tracks of the digitakt.
Didn’t you say it worked with MD ? Should work with Digitakt if so.
Digitakt MIDI OUT > QChord MIDI IN ?
That is to say ? Midi is data, not sound. Midi tracks can record and send midi, but they can’t record sounds.
When you say clock sync, you mean qchord playing independently of the digitakt midi tracks, just being started and clocked by digitakt so that they are playing in time together, is that correct? What happens when you press play on digitakt? Qchord does not start? Or it starts but does not play in time?
Yeah it did work with th md. Digitakt also works fine sending clock with midi keyboard. Thinking maybe the qchord isn’t compatible with Digitakt? Only thing I can think of
Yea that’s correct. Nothing happens when I press play on digitakt. My midis keyboard works fine with digitakt so very confusing
As I said it should work if it worked with MD that use the same midi clock / transport. It is a standard midi protocol.
What do you mean ? That you can play your synths with Digitakt midi notes, that you can play Digitakt sounds with your keyboard, or sync your synths fx, arp ?
How is it plugged ?
All these are different things, can be related to midi notes, doesn’t proove sync works.
So to send midi clock from DT, plug its midi out to QChord in…
MIDI CONFIG > SYNC menu.
CLOCK Send
TRANSPORT Send
Is your midi track muted? Go to the mute mode (hold down func and press bank then release). Now, with the midi tracks engaged make sure the correct track number for the active track is also green to indicate that it is unmuted. If they’re dark, it means they won’t transmit, pretty sure this includes midi realtime commands like transport and clock.
Also, can you confirm that only one midi cable is plugged in to the Qchord?
Yes I can play the sounds from the qchord on the digitakt. I’ve tried that midi configuration u suggested as it’s the same as when I use my keyboard.
