Guess this could be both Octa and A4 related, but given that the Octa is my centerpiece… Here I go.

[ul]
[li]I would like to be able to play the A4 via midi with my Minibrute.[/li]
[li]I have midi out from the Octa to midi in on the A4 to be able to run midi sync. (Octa needs to be master since I’d like to use overdub on Pickup machines).[/li]
[li]I’ve hooked the midi out from the Minibrute to the midi in of the Octa.[/li]
[/ul]

What settings do I need to be able to play the A4 via the Minibrute and also sequence it via tha Octatrack? Is it even possible?

I appreciate all help and pointers.

Cheers,
Mikael

You wont be able to use the Minibrute as a controller that way. You have to go straight from minibrute to A4. Midi thru is really only a 2nd midi out, which means it is sending the same data that is being sent out the same machine’s midi out. It isnt a third type of midi signal flow.

The problem you run into here is that the A4 only has one midi in which makes you have to choose between controlling with Minibrute or Syncing with Octatrack.

Can the Minibrute be a controller through CV instead of Midi? Im not sure. Maybe someone else can answer that. If yes, it would free up the AR’s midi in port for the OT.

Another option might be a midi interface or splitter type device. Ive never used anything like this so maybe someone else can comment on that as well.
cheers

Read the ‘Octatrack as a MIDI control center’ setup example on p128 of the manual.

Come back with details of MIDI channel settings if you need more help after that.

Took one more look in the manual as suggested. Got stuck on CC Direct Connect. That wasn’t it though.

What solved my problem was:

[ul]
[li]Midi/Channel/Auto channel. I set this to 1, since that’s what the Minibrute speaks on.[/li]
[li]Set Midi Track 1 to ch1, and the A4 to Midi Auto Channel 1.[/li]
[/ul]

Then everything was just smooth butter.

Thanks for your input, guys!

1.From Minibrute out to OT in
2.From OT out to A4
3.Turn on midi channel of Minibrute at the one of 8 midi tracks of OT.

I use my OT as the hub as well. I like to use a different auto-channel though so I can control individual tracks and whatnot.

I go controller/kb into OT (set to auto-channel)
A4 auto-channel set to same as OT
AR auto-channel set to same as OT

Then each channel you want to control individually set to a unique channel.

So example, 1,2,3,4 on OT, I can set OT midi track to any of those channels and it will only play that track on the A4.

In addition, I can set a midi track on the OT to the auto-channel and it will play whichever track I actually have selected on the A4.

I have other external gear on different midi channels as well.

Works nicely.
