Have tried this and it doesnt work, what do i do wrong?
Will I be able to see the new cc number if so?

It def works really well, there must be a prob in your midi channel/options config
Check out all the options in the midi page on the ot, and on your other gear
and make sure youve activated the midi channel on the OT, if you dont press enter the channel wont be activated
I had trouble with it too and it finally worked for me yesterday. Here’s what I did in addition to re-read the note in the manual a hundred times, although it’s not certain which was the thing that fixed it.
I made a new project. I don’t know if my project settings were part of the problem but I was doing it anyway. I had been playing around with the MIDI in’s so who knows?
Used a different synth. I think the Virus I have may not send out knob turns. When I switched to the EMU, there are many config options on how MIDI is handled. Maybe test with a MIDI controller first?
It’s totally worth it to get it working. I moved my sound module off the table since I don’t need to touch it anymore. Particularly since the OT will send program change (amazing). The CC number is displayed. I’m trying to figure out if you can then label the knobs once they’re set. Elektron puts the standard names on there which is nice but in the end, not useful. Anyway, if I figure it out, I’ll post it here.
HTH,
CCQ
That would in fact be quite handy.
That is in fact quite annoying.

really hope CC knob naming is implemented sometime in the future. returning to a project you started last month with dozens of CCs mapped is kind of a nightmare. also seems odd since the project files are all kept on the CF and it should require a trivial amount of data space anyway.
hey guys, I’m really struggling as well
perhaps you can help…
When I jump to MIDI learn mode, it doesn’t see the messages – I’ve tried several things and different synths, none of them works … however when I record automation in Ableton, everything works like a charm …
Octatrack is set to CH1 on first track, MIDI monitor says it’s receiving CC message on CH1, Octatrack doesn’t react at all … when I set it manually it sends CC message, no prob …
any ideas, please?
Post a photo of your MIDI CTRL SETUP page so that we can have a look.
That seems OK.
If you send MIDI data to the OT in a any other mode, do you get the single black pixel indicating MIDI data being received?
Are you able to send MIDI notes to the OT from other gear?
yes… when I turn the knob on external synth, little dot in left upper corner blinks …
Hi all, was this ever resolved? i am having similar issues myself
It works
assuming you have cc direct set up and all other things set right, i’d imagine it could be a midi channel conflict - in the first instance check no overlaps with audio channels, either disable those or try with a high midi channel clear of the audio ones to get it going
Hi there, reviving this thread
So I have my OT MIDI out to my Prophet Rev2, and my Prophet Rev2 MIDI out to my Octatrack!
When I do MIDI ctrl 1 setup, hold function, press knob D, then wiggle a knob on my Rev2 (let’s say resonance) it tells me that MIDI CC#99 has been learned!
…But it says this for every MIDI CC! So if I wiggle the filter decay, it says #99! Filter release…99!
Anyone know what’s going on here? My Prophet is set to channel 9 and the MIDI channel is as well.
Did another test: The Octatrack picks up that Mod wheel is in fact number 1. It does not pick up that Filter Cutoff Frequency is NOT 99 it is in fact 102 (i know because I manually assigned it myself)
Yet another test: Turned everything off and on again–no dice. Octatrack still thinks every knob on the Prophet is number 99. I’m beginning to think it’s just too big of a Beatles fan.
Could it be the prophet is sending #99 all the time? Had something similar with my Nord G2
The OT doesn’t know anything about NRPN messages, but CC99 is a clear sign that it receives part of a NRPN message and interprets it as normal CC.
NRPNs require more than one item of controller data to be sent. First, controller 99 - NRPN Most Significant Byte (MSB) - followed by 98 - NRPN Least Significant Byte (LSB) sent as a pair specify the parameter to be changed.
from: wikipedia
In the global settings of the Rev2 (MIDI Param Send) you can configure if parameters are sent as CCs or NRPN .
Thank you! I’ll try this later. I was reading the rev2 manual and saw all that NRPN stuff. Honestly I have no idea what it is and hadnt heard of it until yesterday
NRPN are a kind of high resolution CC. While a CC can only have 128 (7-bit) different possible values, a NRPN can have up to 16384 (14-bit) different possible values.
The drawback is that a single NRPN requires 3-4 midi messages (will a CC fits into a single midi message).
NRPN uses also 14 bit for the controller number (normally written as two numbers like “17:23”). So there are 16384 different NRPNs available per channel (in difference to 128 different CCs per channel).
Kinda sounds like a pain in the ass tbh. 128 I’ve always thought was just fine…you hear rumors about this MIDI 2 stuff and it’s like why do we need thousands of increments?
