MicroKorg OT MIDI

So…, I’m stuck trying to get my OT to communicate with my MicroKorg (MK). I put the MIDI’s ins to outs and vice versa and the stereo jacks MK out to OT in, but all I get is epic confusion between the two devices and nothing remotely working or sounding or communicating. I get a keyboard key operating play on the Octatrack and al I hear is rubbish noise. I’ve been through the OT user guide manual, YouTube tutorials and I’m just not getting it and it’s wrecking my flow and I’m sad because I just want to jam 🥲.

Have you set AUDIO NOTE IN to “MAP/TRACK” in the MIDI control settings? Once you do that you can hold MIDI and press up/down to set a track to chromatic/slices/etc, and you should make sure that the MK is outputting to a channel that is correct for the track you want to control, you can change those in the settings. Auto channel will control whatever channel you have selected.

You’ll also want to refer to the manual to check what octave range you need the keyboard to be in, it’s different for each mode.

Edit: Oh I assumed you were trying to use the MK to control the OT, but it sounds like you want it the other way? Or both? You’ll probably need to give us some clearer info about exactly what you’re trying to achieve.

Have you checked if you’re experiencing a MIDI feedback issue? I know there’s a thing the OT does where if an audio track uses the same channel as a MIDI track one blocks the other from recieving data, IIRC.

Thank you so much for your reply
I will look into this tomorrow when my powers have replenished.

Right now I’m winding down listening to radio fip. It’s a nice French radio station with no commercials, which is a blessing and they have many genres of music to chose from in their free app. It’s amazing really.

Will report on progress when I get around testing again.

About control… I guess I want to play the MK into the OT in full function and have OT master all that input with use of effects and metronome and such?
…So maybe I shouldn’t be sending the OT’s MIDI data back to the MK then?

Forgive me, I’m still a newby and adapting to the engineering side of things and exact thought and such. It’s quite a challenge for a 41 y/o that’s never properly looked into anything technical. I just thought I should, for learning sake. But sometimes I get really frustrated and find no solution, so thanks again for responding. This really helps me (and hopefully others) forward.
