Rarely used Melodyne in past. Yesterday I thought to try to use it to change a synth note in a track im mixing. It’s integrated in to Sonar X3 (my main daw for mixing) so you can use it pretty conveniently on regions etc.
Wow. Super powerful plugin! Didn’t realise how precise you can be with it on multitracked/layered audio. Instead of just changing the one note I ended up added a ton of new variety throughout the piece. Kind of quasi conditional trigs, but precisely where I wanted them and AFTER the audio is recorded. The audio was a full mix too. Not just a vocal or something. And I could pick out from the layers inside it…
This would be so killer on a piece of hardware with weird sequencing options etc. Dunno if it would be possible without a touchscreen tho?Which Elektron seem against. Maybe akai could add it? Anyone know of a box that does something similar?
The only voice/pitch (auto) correction devices I know about come from TC-Helicon, Tascam, or Boss. But they seem to be supposed do to live pitch correction or harmonizing of voices … no editing.
I think there is nothing like “Melodyne in a stomp box” today. AFAIK Melodyne is a piece of software, which uses sophisticated number crunching and I guess that this takes a kind of computer platform anyway …
Melodyne is not cheap. The software package comes single track for approx. 400€, and multitrack for approx. 700€. If we add to this a computer platform, the price tag could easily reach 1200€ or more for the multitrack application.
Who would buy such outbox gear? Maybe that’s the reason, why Melodyne is still a software package after all those successful years of beeing a market leader
