MC 707 / 101 : Roland Grooveboxes

Got it, thanks for the warning. I think this is primarily useful for tone tracks. On the MPC, I often design basslines using two alternating bass presets. Rather than wasting two tracks for that on the MC-101, I could program this with a clip chain. More work, but the fact that it’s possible is kind of cool.

That sounds really powerful (if I’ve understood right) if you combine a couple of clips of say 4 or 8 steps that cycle… getting into the realms of p-locking (at the expense of rapidly using up clips)

Exactly that! And yes, at that expense too. But for something like a call and response type of sequence, it would only need two clips per sequence.

Yeah I had not noticed the problem before, but it was a bit of a pain as I had to convert track sound back to track to get around it, which meant reprogramming the kit I made. I use track sound as clip all the time on tone tracks and never noticed any problems, so it might just be drum tracks that have the issue, or it might just be related to drum compressor (as track mfx type).

Of course, you could also just bounce the clips and import the samples on the drum track of you don’t want to mess with clip chains.

Oh … how wrong I was …

EDIT: or maybe I’m forgetting how long it took me to learn the M:C.

Can you isolate the send/return (global multifx) channel somehow, either via USB audio or by muting the dry channels in the box somehow?

I have a track that I’m sending to the global reverb and I’d like to export the wet signal separately.

Don’t believe it is possible, you can record the individual tracks dry and the mix out separately though, so potentially with a little hacking a workaround might be possible. By recording just the track of interest and the mix, then inverting the track to null the dry signal from the mix should give you just the reverb sound.

That said, I have never used the audio over USB function, but might be worth a try as in theory it should work.

I guess I can just replace the reverb in the DAW in this case. Thanks!

Anyone else having trouble with the drum tracks on the 101? If I try to import one from a saved file it just imports the new kits settings on top of the old kits sounds.

Just seeing if anyone else has this before it gets reported. With the new features, I’ve only just noticed this.

Edit: running 1.80 firmware

@AdamJay where did you find that ultra short usb cable ? Best I could find was about 1ft or 0.5 m.

that’s weird - works as expected here!

Thanks for the info!

I don’t see anyone complaining about this here, or on Facebook so as usual it seems I’m an isolated case. I’ve lost count of how many times something like this has happened in the last few years, always making me feel like I’ve been singled out, to the point that I think I’ll take a break from music gear altogether. I can’t have constant problems with it if I’m not using it :+1:

Did you do the factory reset after updating?

Hmmm … thought for a minute “did I really miss something that obvious” … but thankfully I didn’t … that search doesn’t return any results that match the search criteria on my local amazon.

Thanks though.

Yea, multiple results in US

check eBay?

I will check eBay again … (though pretty sure I did that already) … also googled and found specialist usb suppliers with nothing that matched.

Sorry … I know my request must have looked like someone being lazy, but I did spend some time on this already.

EDIT: I would have been happy with any of those in your picture if I’d found them.
