MBSEQV4 Build

Finally got my MidiBOX SEQV4 running last night… Still need to make the case and config the analogue cv/gate board and I am done… Upon turning it on this thing is gonna be a blast to use… I wanted a Sequentix but could not pony up the cash and went this route… Will slave my MD to it and sequence my midi and analogue gear with all sorts of options…

@cosmosuave

I’ve been considering a similar route. How hard was the build? Is this something that could be approached by someone with only a modest amount of previous electronics DIY experience?

What do you estimate the total cost was when all said and done?

The build was not too hard as all you are doing is soldering components… The key thing is to take your time… I started end of November and worked Sunday nights on it… The difficult thing is sourcing all the info on the ucapps site as it is spread around… The big issue I have is with the software and programming side of things… I am great at constructing but programming not so hot…

I figure I have about $600 cdn sunk into it… The panel was the most expensive item… I also bought additional boards for cv/gate and extra 4 out midi board… Also not you can buy a built unit but you have to watch the buy n sell on that forum…

For me it is a sense of pride and accomplishment to build this and create music (techno) with it…

For me it’s the other way around – the programming comes relativel yeasy, it’s the hardware assembly I find intimidating!

I love DIY projects, my big problem is I have limited time for my hobbies, and so realistically when push comes to shove I need to decide whether my free time will be spent making music or making gear to make music! Wish I could do both, but not at this point in my life… :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

I’ll definitely check out the forums to see if I might be able to snag a pre-built one. Thanks for the tip!

Hear ya on time constraints… I have 2 young kids and miraculously pulled it off… As much as i love the sequencer on the MD this will be my go to sequencer but I will still program my drums on the MD…

I love the Midibox stuff but I’m short on money atm (poor student), I would love to see a video or some pictures of your unit as I consider building one in the near future.

The programming shouldn’t be the hardest thing to do (I know too many experienced programmers to help me out) the only thing I hate that many DIY projects come with is the power supply or voltage conversion (can be dangerous when being uncareful)

Anyways I’d love to see it when it’s finished

Good luck on further building

Oh, this is well useful. For pictures, another user on GearSlutz kindly shared his building album (some non-standard parts): http://www.flickr.com/photos/gjvti/

Grats man, job well done. Always great to finish up a build and enjoy some new fun.

Thanks guys not quite done yet… Cut the wood for the case yesterday and still need to stuff everything and construct a rear panel… Another month and I should be done…

That build on the Flikr is beautiful…

Yeah dealing with the case is about the least appealing part of it for me, like a whole separate project for what is actually the least technical part and something that I’d rather just buy off the shelf and assemble

My SEQV4 is almost finished… Got the case done just need to wire the mains and connect the boards… Holes in the case are for gate/cv jacks and fuse/switch… So glad I bailed on the wood case I was making…

wow, that looks cool

Wow, that case is amazing. How did you do it? I bet you could sell them to other builders.

Thanks man… If I had a milling machine, brake , and shear I would consider making them… Had the aluminum for the case sheared and bent and all the cut outs done with a drill, die grinder, and files…
