Manual sample won't automatically timstretch

My apologies as it’s obviously noob driver error but it’s driving me mad. I’ve RTFM and watched numerous tutorial vids but to no avail.
I can adjust the original bpm in attributes but regardless of how I set up recording it won"t recognise the original bpm and just shows what i’ve got the OT set to.
I know it’s a simple bit of finger trouble but 4 hrs in and my wife and son hate me and i’m about to spontaneouslyon combust!
If I can throw myself upon your mercy and ask for any ideas as to what i’m doing wrong?
Thanks in advance.

I don’t think it’s supposed to recognise bpm. Timestretching is another thing though; do you mean your sample doesn’t stretch if you play it back and adjust the master tempo?

Exactly,

But there is an Octatrack know how #3 from Dataline claiming the Auto timestretch feature.

She’s not playing ball.

I watched the video and now I’m not sure, I don’t sample that way personally. Others will know what’s up or I can check with mine in the morning.

That’s not Dataline btw.

One thought before I go sleep. Do you use the one2 or hold rec modes so you can determine the start and end of sampling? I think the “secret” here is that the OT is told beforehand the sample will be 16 steps eg 1 bar long, and then it does in fact calculate the bpm.

That’s not Dataline, no.

I’ve watched so many vids today I don’t know who anyone is anymore.

Yep, Set the steps, still doesn’t behave. It’s no massive issue. I just alter it manually in the Attributes afterwards but was unable to recreate that timestretch automatically.

Not sure iff this helps.
In attributes page highlight tempo and press enter. now it will always detect bpm via this set tempo.

I did exactly like in the video and it worked. One more thing: I believe the tempo for the recordings is determined by the master tempo if the sequencer is running. If not running, it will guess based on length, the rlen doesn’t even matter here.

So if your sequencer is stopped and you follow the video and still no luck, I’m out of ideas.

There be the rub.

The sequencer isn’t running. I’ve followed the video to the letter. I’ve tried both Auto and Beat in the Timestretch selection in the playback menu.
It’s not a big thing, just frustrating.

Thanks for your input.

Is there a chance he did this by accident? I didn’t know about this feature.

If I set the original tempo to the input bpm in attributes before the sample it will revert to the OT’s master tempo immediately when I sample. I was always able to adjust the original bpm after I had sampled but that’s my whole point really.

There is every chance but I cannot get rid of the arrow that signifies that this is the “priority tempo”
I’ve empty reset’d, done a software update from 1.25 to 1.25h, started numerous new projects, sets, etc.
Can someone PLEASE just fling me that nugget of wisdom/logic/common sense that will stop me from slinging it at the cat. ( Smoke and Pet-free studio… the cat is in the garden blazing like a mo’fo)
It was a trade but i 'd hate to think the thing is faulty.
Any ideas my friends please…
I’m going up to bash out my settings.
PLEASE PEOPLE?

I don’t think that arrow actually does anything. It can point at the recorder’s bpm (like it does on a fresh project) but when you record something the bpm should still change.

Are you sure you set the record end moment yourself rather than it stopping recording because rlen is up? Because in that case the sample would have the master tempo

Yep, Rlen set ro 33. Pattern length is 3w. Tstr set to Auto in playback setup. Rate set to tstr. Timestretch set to normal in recording menu.
It works perfectly with samples of any bpm from the cf card.
I’m completely flumuscked.

Rlen to 32. Pattern length 32 that is.

Pattern length doesn’t matter. Just make sure it is you who stops the recording and not the OT.

Can you record a video where we could see everything that happens?

I will do that this evening or tomorrow.

I now have the pleasure of being Father Christmas at me litt’lun’s school!!

Not sure which is more stressful…

So, just turned the OT on and thought i’d start a new project. Didn’t alter any recording settings from when I was having trouble AND it works perfectly. Riddle me that!

I’m made up but WFT was that all about?

Nice to hear

I’m as baffled as you are, I don’t see anything in Project settings that could cause this. Let’s hope somebody has the answer.
