If you have the chance, I cannot urge you enough to see Alessandro on his current tour. I almost didn’t go because of ticket costs, but I would pay 5x that amount to see him again. I have no idea how one person with two Stregas (or any other instrument besides a church organ maybe, haha) could produce that much sound. The bass was so full it knocked one of the speakers into the floor. I know this sounds hyperbolic, but it was an experience I’ll never forget. Even if you haven’t heard his music and just love sound and music, it’s worth it. Still in total awe.

A new release by Alessandro Cortini heavily featuring the Strega.

Following up on 2021’s Scuro Chiaro, NATI INFINITI is a 40-minute piece split into five movements, based on an immersive audio installation that Cortini originally created for the Sónar Lisboa festival in 2022 where it was presented across four floors of the Museu de Lisboa’s Moagem. Cortini later debuted the live performance at Berlin’s Atonal festival in 2023, reimagining the work as a unique, evolving dialogue. The record is mixed by Grammy nominated recording engineer, producer, and mixer Marta Salogni (Björk, Depeche Mode, Sampha), and features Cortini’s Strega synth, which he co-designed with music technology company Make Noise.

Totally agree with you. I saw him in Copenhagen, and was blown away. What a wizard!

I love that synth, from what I see and hear. That sparky, electric tone. Looks like it’s pretty difficult to shape into obedience, seems to have a will of it’s own. That, and the shortlist already decided makes me skip it just yet.
