This looks super exciting and should generate a good discussion as more information and videos comes out about it.
They put this up on their Facebook page :
Look at that field of controls and the layout you can see so far. At Superbooth.

If you squint, it looks like a posh Alesis Ion.
Which is a good thing.
Honestly looking forward to this quite a bit, we don’t have that many options in the “west-coast poly” market.
So what’s with the single pinkish orange knob and button in the middle of the field. A Magnolia blossom ??
Dare you even touch it ?
It is weird that one side of it is black and the other is white, like a ying Yang type of thing? I really do love it though… I would rather this then a muse any day of the week!!
I was thinking replacing those with magnolia wood.
kinda digging the understated interface vibe. looks so clean and organized.
Looks very nice, clean and structured. Looking forward to the videos from Berlin
Up now on their website as well:
https://frap.tools/magnolia/
Sounds great from the very short examples we have.
Polyphonic-aftertouch Fatar keybed
The playing in that particular video (from Bonedo) leaves a lot to be desired, but even with that the Magnolia sounds so far up my alley it’s almost uncomfortable.
Speaking of videos:
sounds interesting, but I’m not hearing a ton of sounds that I’m desiring (or can’t already make). I like that the screen is just patch info (it seems), and sliders for ADSR is always nice.
seems like a lot of wasted spaced on the panel. imagine they could’ve pushed the controls together and made it four-octave.
Aaand more videos slowly coming out, this one from Thomann:
I have a gut feeling that a lot of the presentation has been rehearsed/“scripted”, possibly due to the unit not being a finalized product as far as I understand. When third parties have had access to it, we’ve gotten to hear a few more diverse sounds compared to Frap’s presenter.
SynthAnatomy’s video here as well:
Anyone got any information regarding the Fatar keybed? I’m hoping that it’ll be a TP/8S…
sounds like a roland sh-32 to me
Considering it’s a poly-AT keybed by Fatar, it’s most likely a TP/8SK.
I asked them whether it was TP/8SK on Modwiggler but they haven’t replied as yet. Fatar also do one that’s TP/9 based I believe, as on the Native Instruments S-series MKIIIs. Sometimes you can eyeball it with the different key lengths but I’m struggling to be confident from looking at it.
This thing would require many months of saving but it feels like it’s been made just for me in most ways, especially if it’s a TP/8SK with a similar feel to the Waldorfs.
My only complaint is that growing up in the 80s and 90s I kind of hoped I’d never have to see anything in magnolia again
I didn’t even notice the first time around, but at the very end of Thomann’s video it was mentioned that the target price is “five euro short to 4k, more or less”, so 3 995€ if I’ve understood that correctly.
