Apparently design can make a difference:
If you cant get insurance. And the area is high risk of fire. Then why would you keep your life possessions there? Wouldnt you relocate even to a poorer area when you have time to do so. Its not like Pompeii where those poor people didnt know in advance of the high risk. It seems madness to stay.
Everything seems easy when you’re a spectator! Probably best to send hopeful thoughts rather than pass judgement!
Life’s a high risk of danger, could end any second!
I’d rather spend that time being grateful and optimistic! I hope that’s infectious enough to help others when I physically can’t!
Go fund the wealthy celebrities!
Sending you a hug - there’s nothing here about me, nothing about Madlib - it’s all about you, and it’s pain.
This thread is ridiculous but fuck it…
Yes, the American dream crumbled into the GoFundMe nightmare. This is where we are at.
Not everybody whose name you recognize is famous and many are not rich.
Reputation, respect and artistic achievements are nice but they are not the same as financial compensation. I don’t think Madlib has it like some of yall think he does but I also don’t care lol.
@VappyHalley these takes are a lot and I have a lot of a lot takes… so I’m kind of an expert, jk. But I’m pretty sure climate change is global. These are historically bad fires. You don’t have to feel bad for anyone and maybe you know how to place yourself in some zone where there’s no pre-acknowledged risk of natural disasters or other harm to life/property but a lot of us are just doing the best we can.
I’ll admit, I had feelings when I first started to see the more wealthy areas around the city burn and the evacuating celebrities. Hollywood is a somewhat important mechanism of the wealth inequality in our society. I get mad at our society for all sorts of reasons but a big one is the wealth inequality. But that’s like being mad at the universe about talent inequality. Would I rather have a mega-yacht or be able to shred on any instrument I pick up? I’d like to think I wouldn’t choose the yacht but I could probably be swayed.
You can hope for better systems and you can fight for them whichever way you want but ultimately people are gonna people and the universe is gonna universe.
In other words, I find it somewhat irksome that so many people chase the Hollywood dream, just like I find it somewhat irksome that Hollywood supports a lot of shit that I don’t think is good for humanity/society. There’s some asshole part of me that finds it is ideologically easier to sympathize with some idea of a person in a foreign culture, third world, poverty, exploited laborer than some one more like me who decided they need to try to write songs for Disney or some shit. But it’s all just bullshit in my head. This situation is horrible even for some rich asshole who has 2 or more extra mansions. They have staffs out of jobs. There are plenty of people who fit whatever my fucked up, ideal victim status is living right there, suffering from this. None of this pertains to Madlib per se (if someone quotes me, please quote that part lol) but like, it’s a go fund me… You don’t have to donate. It would suck if you lost a bunch of shit just like it sucks for him.
To out you kind folk up to date
The guy is sn opportunist. He has a net wirth of $4 million dollars yet still has the aheer audacity to beg for money.
Well if all those people who lost everything and i mean everything with no net worth did a fundme but they didnt.
Hes using his fame to generate more wealth in top of that $4 million dollars.
Dont be so naive chaps.
Arguably more naive to think 4mil in LA is actually wealthy tbh (also to trust the validity of sites such as that) but yea. Good day.
He still is living ok… Even in LA 4 mil is still comfortable… better then most are doing. Plus he has his name to make money when he needs it… I’m not picking sides just being real…
Also yes, 4 mil is not a lot of money to rich people… two mil net worth is solidly middle class to those people… and that is in any major city in America in better neighborhoods… i.e. rich people…
You might be true. Or completely wrong.
If Flying Lotus and DJ Spinna advertised it first, there are chances Madlib really lost everything.
You are of course free to believe what you want and act accordingly, but I believe assumptions can lead to a lot of wrong. Let’s not engage in some kind of mob backlash.
ML was robbed by his label, then his management/ second label/ partner…
lets not turn him into an oprah just yet.
I was wondering: maybe this thread should be closed? People that wanted to support - already did and this is now turning into some class & capital seminar non of us needs. Grew up in post Soviet country - know thing or two about “ugly capitalism”
Agreed.
