Can anyone explain why the top MD have slightly lighter knobs?

I checked Reverb and there are a number of MDs with slightly lighter colored knobs. Was this a manufacturing or supply issue?

My mk1 MD and mk2 MM has dark knobs but my mk2 MD has slightly lighter knobs.

Why?

Are they all hard plastic? They changed to dark grey rubberised ones on the mk2 models, but maybe not straight away. Perhaps the mk2 ones were lighter to match the rubber coated versions. All mk1s (MM&MD) had hard plastic knobs which are also a real bastard to remove.

Yes, the lighter color is rubber coated.
And here is my situation:

Machinedrum SPS-1UW MKI (2005): Dark hard plastic knobs
Monomachine SFX60+ MKII (2011-03):  Dark hard plastic knobs
Machinedrum SPS-1UW+ MKII (2014-01): Lighter rubber coated knobs

So it seems like they switched to the lighter colored better feeling rubber coated knobs sometime around 2011~2014.
