M8 Tracker (Part 2)

Thanks!

Unfortunately, I’m one of these DAW-less snobs.

That’s a clever solution.

But I would really prefer a send fader/encoder to do that during a live performance :-/

Midi map a midi controller to the fx send values of the instrument(s) you want to effect?

Hm, sure, but then I get an already effected signal (i.e. reverb, mfx or delay) fed to the external FX unit, and not a dry signal. AKAIK, even setting the FX values to minimum still applies some effect.

Beside using the Pre: – routing option (but this doesn’t allow to use a MIDI learnt CC to control the send, if I’m not mistaken), I don’t know of any way to send a dry signal from one of the FX busses.

It would be great to have the option to “sacrifice” any or all internal effects to use the corresponding busses as a dry send instead.

The M8’s internal effects are great as is, but a dry bus would open the door to creating FX loops with external effects units and using them in a more flexible way.
(I would go for a NTS-3 for portability)

Doesn’t the PRE option replace the bus’s regular fx? Like, you can sacrifice chorus for an aux send.

@trash80 being able to use MIDI to switch between PRE: TRACK 1, PRE: TRACK 2 etc would be handy.

I haven’t tried but if the PRE option means pre-fader, the FX amount control in the instruments is likely not to do anything?

Wow - this is amazing

How/where do you apply these settings?

In the Groove view

You would change USB main out mode to pre reverb to have m8 send USB channel 1&2 the dry input signals of the reverb. Then mute the reverb in mixer, now anything sent back through usb is the reverb replacement.

So you can already do what you’re suggesting

So that’s already possible!
OK, I’m not sure I fully understand, but I will definitely try that!

Thank you so much

Thanks

So I have to:

Go to “Project” screen

Select an empty Groove ( 01)

Go to “Groove” screen and manually plot the numbers from the list

repeat

Basically turn down reverb in the mixer screen, turn up usb input in the mixer screen, in M8 system settings change USB main out (think that is what I called it) to “Pre:Reverb”. Now the main USB inputs on the USB host is the reverb input mix signal without the actual reverb. In aum or whatever insert desired effects and have aum send back that signal. You do not need to use the “Multichannel” mode, this has been a thing since version 6.0 I believe.

Yes, I guess so
I mean, there are just 2 values to edit (per groove) so I’m not sure about the “repeat” part

Yes, I got it now.
Choose 96 ppg and entered the 2 values at each groove. This is fun.

There are crazy things to do with grooves. But I have to say I haven’t explored this feature yet.

A convenient application is to use a groove to halve (0C:0C) the tempo on the tracks using this groove, for example.

Maybe other users could suggest interesting grooves?

I remember someone here mentioning crazy applications ((like gradually slowing down tempo or something)

I did one where the beat is slowing down and dragging towards the end of each bar

Would you mind sharing the values?

Lots of uses: swing, triplets, polymeters, strums, fitting extra steps in a small space, allowing one track to seemingly change tempo against the others, or just adding in a timing offset so you can play the same sequencer on multiple tracks with different timing.

I was just about to ask you to recommend a tutorial video, but it seems you already made one (if that’s you)

I’m going to dive into this when I have a minute.

Hey, I just wanted to thank you again, I got this working, that’s great!

I didn’t get it at first that I actually need to be in
USB Audio Mode : Stereo Out
(VS multichannel)

Or do I?

I mean, I tried
USB Audio Mode : Multichannel
But it seems the Reverb channel (Reverb being the FX I used for my test) was still wet, even when the Reverb output was turned down on the mixer screen.

So I guess this trick doesn’t work with Mutichannel USB Out?
