Low profile cables for Octatrack

I’m looking for some advice and I’m sure someone here has found the ultimate solution.

I want to use all inputs/outputs on my Octatrack, but the space behind the Octatrack is very limited.
So I’m looking for a super space limited solution here using balanced cables.

My Octatrack is raised 3-4 centimeters, so cables can go directly downward and back under the Octatrack (to my 1U mixer).

The best I’ve managed to do so far is to use 90 degree angled (and balanced) 6.35 mm patch cables for the bottom row of connection. This solution is perfect.
But the issue then comes from the top row of in/outs. If I use the same angled patch cables on the top row, they are pointing upwards and looks messy.

Optimally I would either want to find an 90° angled 6.35 mm cable that first has a 1-2 cm adapter body before making the 90° turn. So that I can go across the bottom row of angled connectors and directly down.

Not sure if I’m making any sense, so look at this illustration where I hopefully show what I mean

Check rockboard flatest cables for the lower ones.

I’m already using these (but the balanced version) for the bottom row. The issue is that I need to go across these and down with the top row connectors. And I have yet to find the optimal 90 degree angled connector for the top row to make this happen.

I made a custom TRS 4 channel loom.

Normal TRS jacks on one end - and on the end that is inserted into the OT - I have two straight TRS mini jacks with adaptors, for Main A/L and Cue A/L. And for Main B/R and Cue B/R (as they are the jacks at the bottom) I used two right angled TRS mini jacks with adaptors.

Thought I’d mention in case it solves your requirement like it did mine.

I own similar cables.
Rockboard are way flatter.
Makes it easier to find your top row cables.

Now look into adapters, some can fit your use:

These absolutely seems to be possible. Even one review mentions that they are approx 15mm before making the turn

But then the next question is. Will the signal still truly be balanced when going into a TRS headphone adapter with a balanced cable? I was under the impression that I couldn’t use regular headphone adapters as adapters for balanced cables

So, is this actually a balanced cable but using a stereo 3.5 mm cable with headphone adapters? And connecting it between a balanced out to balanced in is equal to using a regular balanced 6.35 mm cable (but without extra shielding and what not)?

All right! Do you mean like the post above here? Two stereo headphone adapter with a 3.5 mm stereo cable between?
I think I have overcomplicated this in that case. I didn’t understand that it will actually make the combination into a balanced cable.

In that case it is super simple to achieve👌

Also check out the Elektron balanced cables. They have the lowest profile I have seen without being flat or angled. They might even be sticking out less the the angled adapter you have pictured here. Still might be sticking out to much but worth to check out

The other cables I have that has a very low profile is the Mutli cable from Thomann or Adam hall.

So if these are really balanced now, I actually managed to solve it with things I already had home :grinning:
I managed to get rid of the extra 2 cm that made things a bit too tight. Now I even have 1 cm to spare :ok_hand:

Balanced and stereo cables are the same
It’s just the signals that are used differently.

This should be a t shirt.

My experience with adaptors is that they are failure prone and the first place where noise sneaks in. I wouldn’t use them if i could avoid it.

I was shopping for a new shirt today and holy shit!

Just one problem! Apple Pay doesn’t seem to work!

Definitely - not live rig safe without replacements at the ready. But in a studio environment where they aren’t being plugged in and out regularly they’ve been fine for me for years. Especially if you buy £10 ones instead of £2 Amazon jobs

Just click here for the link, and don’t worry, Apple Pay is working now!

seeing how much space you have i guess the elektron trs cables could fit. i use it in a similar situation.

when looking for an angled solution i had one lying around and was surprised that it fit. will measure when i am in the studio

would be a safer solution concerning sound quality
