LOUD studio monitors

Hello

I had JBL SRX815P (2000 watts) basically for studio jamming. Theyre incredible. But overkill? Recently sold them for house down payment but am now wanting something with higher end sound quality and enough bass and volume to envelop the player in the bedroom studio…….but not as expensive as the jbls (which are ~$3000/pr).

My studio monitors are jbl LSR305’s and theyre 82 watts. They would suck at this job.

I see mackie 824 MKII are 250w.

Dynaudio LYD 8 130w.

Yamaha HS8 120w.

Adam A7V 110w.

Can you guide me with what you might do? Thank you!

Adam is great

I bought a Yamaha HS8S subwoofer to go with my HS7’s and Adam T7v’s for when I want to go loud… taking the low end responsibility away from your nearfields frees them up to be able to go plenty loud enough… I only ever use the sub when I want the vibe (loud).

Great info @CCMP thank you.

Have you used 5” monitors with a sub and been satisfied with the volume and room vibe?

Is the room treated and what size?

For monitoring you don’t want too loud, for playback it is ok though.

…if u want LOUDNESS u better invest in some smaller pa…studio monitoring beyond 250 watt is pretty expensive and huge…apart from the fact, that naked watts don’t translate one on one into loudness…every speaker has a sweet balance spot…even the biggest pa’s sound best if u run them not over 80% of their maximum loudness capacity…same goes especially for all serious monitoring…so if u want loudness, u better invest in a small 1kw soundsystem…a classic pa with two passive satelites plus one sub with all the amping inside…
decent models can be found for around 1500 bux…

Thank you daren. Room is 15x15’ ish. Im happy with my monitoring situation though its far from high end. Room is new and treatment is evolving. The purpose of my questioning here is great sound quality specifically for players in the room to enjoy jamming together……from that inspiration i will switch to headphones to record and my good ol lsr305’s for mixing.

Yes @reeloy good stuff….im definitely wanting to figure out if im really just at the PA level for this use.

As i type i realize i do vocals too and nearfields obviously feedback too much at any jamming volume. Hmmmm. I just really like the sound of the SRX series but dont want to go 3k for about 1000-1500 not oft used watts. In my larger old space, i probably ran the srx’s at 30-40%?

That would be a great name for a band

Ok thinking of going with the JBL LSR310s since it wont hurt to own that anyways and matches with my existing monitors. As well, the price is right!

Im glad for the sub idea @CCMP and all the other thoughts everybody.
