I’ve finally got around to try out Loopy Pro. Obviously a great app, but I need some help. I want to loop guitars. My guitar rig is a Darkglass Alpha Omega preamp pedal with guitar amp cab sim. Sounds great. I just need to get it into the Ipad and Loopy Pro. I have an Ipad Air M1 with USB C, and a Belkin port that takes just about anything – USB A, HDMI, VGA, SD cards… And it also has a headphone jack.
I tried to connect my Analog 4 mk II in USB Audio mode, with the guitar preamp in external in. And it kind of works, but not really. I can record and loop stuff, but the sound out of Loopy Pro gets fed back in as well. For some reason I don’t get feedback noise, but still.
I tried with my Zoom H5, which can work as a USB audio interface for Ipad but will not accept power over USB at the same time (unlike its computer USB interface mode), so it eats batteries. I also get weird crackling/buzzing when I use it with Loopy Pro (but not if I turn the app off).
My third alternative is my Apogee Element 24 audio interface, but that’s like my main sound unit that I don’t want to connect and disconnect just to loop stuff on the Ipad.
So I need advice. Am I doing something wrong with the A4, could it be used in the way I want, just for audio in and not out? Is there a way to use the Ipad’s internal outs?
What would otherwise be a good, not to pricey USB audio interface for Ipad that I can hook up my preamp to?
What do you know! I dug out my old Avid MBox audio interface, the one that looks like it should have caterpillar treads and be some kind of mine clearing device. I didn’t even know it was class compliant, but it works!
Finally jumped in and bought this after demoing it over the summer. Many of you here inspired me as did the Henny tha Bizness channel on YT who had his OP-1 Field connected to Loopy Pro and has been making loads of cool stuff with the combo. I plan to use my DT/DN combo to create loads of different loops and then utilize LP to arrange them. I’ve never clicked with working with a DAW but LP seems like the perfect combination of flexibility and sophistication , plus it allows me to use my dozens of iOS FX apps…
I want to do NGNY in '24 and am hoping Loopy Pro will keep the temptation of buying an Octatrack or SP 404 at bay. Wish me luck!
Koala Sampler w/ Samurai upgrade will you cover you for the SP-404
And yes, Loopy Pro is amazing. I was using it for my first improv techno jam (in well over a year) with my partner yesterday. He was pretty floored. Definitely converted now.
After Drambo a few weeks ago, I just discovered Loopy pro a few days ago.
I can already say that this thing is nuts. For now I use it as a glorified customizable control surface for Bitwig and it’s seriously one of the best controller I’ve found for my use.
Can’t wait to dive in the looper/sampler function.
After that, I think the next step would be Koala sampler. And then, with Drambo, Loopy pro and Koala sampler, I’m ready to sell all my hardware.
I’m not quite at that stage… but with every new hardware announcement, I ask myself, “Can I do this with the iOS apps I already have, or by spending 20€ or so?” and it’s surprising how often it’s effective.
I’m not sure if I still have these saved as this was a while ago and I’ve got a new iPad now. I’ll have a look.
It’s very simple to set this up though. The launchpad pretty much auto configures itself when you choose the controller in Loopy. The the Launchcontrol can just be mapped via midi learn - it literally takes a few mins
no probs. yes, same launchpad and launch control XL. I don’t really use LP anymore, but setting up one or multiple controllers is very simple.
Apologies if you already know this, but If you aren’t familiar with setting up midi controllers, just plug the controller/s into the iPad via a USB hub > open Loopy Pro settings menu and choose Midi Learn (the screen will show that you are in midi learn mode) > touch the control on screen that you want to manage and the midi control parameters menu will pop up > press/move the button/pot/slider on the controller that you want to control that function with and it will map it for you > make sure you close the midi learn menu for that function before touching the midi controller again or moving to the next function you want to map, otherwise you’ll end up screwing up the control function you’ve just mapped!
Actually, I have just acquired the Rk008, for I like to be free from bigger screens. However, I’m looking forward to Loopy Pro implementing MIDI looping, which in my case will be great for drum parts and alike.
The cost of RK008 can get a base model iPad mini or may be enough to buy all available sequencing apps on App Store. It is a tough call but the look is very appealing and not bad at all as a hardware sequencer.
Yes, midi looper will be huge. I don’t really enjoy having multiple tracks/parts hiding inside individual AUs.
