This question applies to all elecktron machines but I use the OT the most so am posting here.
Is it possible to loop specific pages i.e. can I loop page 2 (bar 2) on the sequencer without having to loop page 1 and 2? This would be great so you can program notes without having to wait for page 1 to finish playing.
2 ways to do this:
Shift your trigs around so that the section you want to work with is on the first 16 trigs, and set scale setup to only play that section.
Or
Use song/arranger and offset it to play the range you want to work on.
Accent, you get the award for “why didn’t I think of that”. Well done.
Does this really work, without messing your p locks ?
But can you explain the scale adjustment, if you change the scale to one bar then change it back to four, dont you lose your trigs ? Or do you change the master scale lengh ?

You won’t loose your trigs or mess up your p-locks. Once you program it in, it is there unless you delete it. Just because you set the scale length to 16/16, the other steps in your pattern are still there with whatever locks you’ve applied-they just won’t play until you change the scale length.
can’t try at mo, but can this be done seamlessly, i.e. without missing a beat, i seem to recall that the ability to copy a pattern into another pattern ahead of time was possible on the A4, but was not as slick on the OT, it meant doing the paste as quickly as poss after changing, rather than just switching patterns, that sort of un-interupted performable aspect would be ideal
fwiw elektron, a means to nudge pages would be a nice workflow boost, assuming it’s not there already, doubt it tho
well, it’d be 16x faster and guaranteed to be quantised without counting. also it wouldn’t result in phase slipped patterns ![/quote]
I guess I don’t get it… If you don’t touch any trigs and press function + left or right it moves all your triggers left or right on the sequencer page by 16th note steps. I still dont see how nudging the page vs nudging the trigs on the page would be any different.
^you could do it real time without the sounds shuffling as they get triggered, although that’s one of my favorite things to do.
i do the “scratch” thing too, but i find it works better for me usually if i just say, hey let’s split it here and don’t plan on adding it back in. you’ll go off on these tangents, with the new pattern that are usually pretty cool.
so a lot of times, my 1st pattern is where i try stuff out and then i break stuff out to their own thing.
i think the op might’ve been talking about real time recording though? because grid entry you definitely can switch to whatever page and edit while other pages are playing.
if so, (this is using independent track lengths) sometimes i find it helpful to make your track “too long” like if you want 2 pages, make it 64/4 pages and start recording on the 33rd step. then you can copy a page and shrink down to 32, 16, 8 whatever steps, paste and just work on that, it’s actually pretty fast and easy once you get the hang of it and paste over the wrong thing a few times. you usually end up with good variations or whatever.
hmm, “page play”, a mode to switch and loop pages with the trigs within a pattern, maybe like as a subset of independent track triggering would be a really cool for the octactrack. would kinda be super mpc. i wonder if there is a midi message to set start offset.
