+1 on crossfade looping. This is so basic it should have been included.
I am not that deep in the elektron world but i heard here and there that the release feels like premature as if they released without being ready or something. Dunno if its b…s information though
Never owned a DT1, did that have a crossfade option that didn’t get carried over?
I suspect not:

No it doesn’t. Probably because it is more centered around generating patterns out of samples with slicing and stuff rather than what a samplers like emu or Akai do. IMHO.
I have an old Emax and a DSS-1 since the 90s and man was it difficult to generate good loops even with the ver simple crossfade they had. I could spend hours trying to find something but on the other hand these asynchronous clicking loops created nice atmospheric sounds with some delay and reverb.
I do use Maschine+ now and that crossfade is awesome. Mostly to autosample a synth patch. And play them polyphonic.
I don’t think it’s that. Elektron are just very specific on what features get into each of their boxes and it doesn’t look like they want the DT2 to have x-fade looping… or any looping without clicks.
Well, if that’s true, I’m rather disappointed. Why have the looping play options if they’re not easily usable?
Sounds a bit rather Apple-ish
I think it’s pretty well known about Elektron gear, isn’t it?
True. Was kind of hoping that they will unshackle the Digitakt 2 eventually if no OT successor
Not to me. I just spent close to £900 on a Sampler with looping play options why aren’t they implemented in the best possible way? I’m sure I’m wasting my breathe but I do find it disappointing.
I think we’re just going to have to be patient. The Digitakt was originally more of a drum oriented sampler, and it’s only recently with the DT2 they finally started to expand the use case and start to lean more towards it being a fully-fledged groovebox. I think it’s going to take awhile to suss out some of the issues that came about with this sort of shift in focus.
I hate to say it but I agree. I loved the original DT and the new one for sure is an improvement BUT that’s a lot of money for basically half-baked features. Enough to annoy me to the point of considering selling it. Feeling a little like Elektron is coasting / taking for granted that they’re the only game in town. Sorry for being grumpy but once I got off the ‘Elektro-Juice’ I began to think a little more clearly about the standard that’s being offered for £900!
While i can see where you coming from , they also doubled the amount of audio tracks, made them stereo, added another LFO and other improvements IE routing ETC. Is that not worthy of the extra cost?
While there is some functionality to iron out what’s half baked about the features that were the main selling points? These were the features we have seen in countless threads since the OG came out.
There are many things I think they could improve on,( sample zoom being a big one for me) being a sampler fanatic i choose to focus on all the crazy stuff it can do that my other sampler cannot. Many of these aspects make more valuable to me than modern MPCs/SPs, and worth the price and that’s not even including the wonderful build quality.
Use 2 tracks; resample.
No you’re right - being grumpy, but it does annoy me for that price point there are things they could implement but don’t because seemingly it would hurt sales of the OT (which is ancient by today’s standards) such as (like yous said) sample zooming, adjustable slice points and all the many easy fixes users noted in the DT wishlist thread. I guess I’d like to imagine a DT2 in a universe where the OT didn’t exist - and that the DT was still the DT, just not crippled by not being allowed to encroach on the OT’s territory. Fwiw, I owned an OT for a couple of years and generally hated it.
I’m not sure that’s the reason. I imagine there was a lot of pressure to get the thing on the market with the big new features (stereo, track count) and otherwise feature parity with the OG.
I’m sure there was but beta testing on the public… For £900+? I mean I bought one immediately and thought it was a great upgrade but the crippled feature set just stood out that much more!
This does not achieve what i am trying to do. I want the ability to (relatively) seamlessly loop-crossfade a sample and be able to play it chromatically.
What you are suggesting while it being a workaround i don`t see how this will work in my case.
- I would need two tracks to do something that should be „basic business“ for a sampler in this price range.
- It would generate new files= Extra storage use.
- Not flexible in case you decide to fine tune it further.
I reckon that one cant have it all but i believe this should really be standard in the DT2 by now.
If they add it i will forever keep my mouth shut.
I also find it a bit hard to understand that very often i see users ask a simple question like „ why does it not have feature X“ which in most cases are fairly straightforward and not crazy things,
some hardcore supporters will jump in and justify anything instead of engaging in a dialogue.
Dunno. Maybe i am wrong but i noticed for some it`s not a machine you pay (a lot) of hard earned money for but more like a religion.
Well to each their own i guess 🤷
