…as AR and OT food. You know the pianos that were in schools, small, upright, slightly out of tune. I’d love to have some samples of that. Don’t have a piano at home, otherwise I would just do it myself! Do any of you guys know of samples/VSTs like this?

Modulate the fine tune with something like random lfo on any old piano patch?

Yeah, that works, but is just too blunt. I like it when the keys are mismatched against themselves. And I dont want to take 4-5 tracks of OT just to detune it hehe. But listen to the samples, man they sound good!
Omnisphere has a patch where they are recording a piano as they are burning it.

I recorded a beaten, rather detuned upright piano of a lovely, slightly shabby little theatre and made an Ableton Live .alp package for Sampler, in case you’re fine with only 1 sample layer, here’s a dropbox to it: RationalTheater-upright-piano
used it for a composition for a play in said theatre and recently on a movie soundtrack, it has its charm and is indeed “poorly recorded”
