Looking for pads to go with my Digitakt

Hey there, sorry if this in in the wrong spot but I’m still new to the forum.

I just picked up a DT a few months back and I love it.

Now I have a little budget and I want something with pads, that I can play chords and scales on easier (I do not know how to play piano) and I want to keep this new setup DAWlesss and portable.

Basically I want something in my new workflow that will replace what my Mikro does in my DAW setup and work sans computer to tap out some synth lines in key, not having much background of music theory.

From watching videos and reading forums, it feels like the Circuit might be a solid next buy and have a lot of future options but curious if anyone had other suggestions.

Thanks in advance…

I’d say Circuit is just the thing. I have one, and it plays nice with the DT. Even if later on you move up to something more complex, the Circuit is a great bit of gear to have on hand.

Plus cool thing about the circuit is that if you love the sequencer and pads (scales mode too) you can always use it to sequence other synths (turn down volumes on synth 1 and 2).

I’ve seen that, def seems like the Circuit will leave me options in the future.

Thanks!

Hmmm… this has got me thinking, I hadn’t really considered the Circuit before, but have seen it in a few set ups.

Do any members of the forum currently use it with their DT? What sort of things are you using it for?

Am I mistaken in thinking it’s grid/step sequencer is somewhat redundant when paired with the Elektron sequencer? Seems like a double up of functionality.

Check out Ricky Tines on youtube, he is a Circuit specialist.

I currently use it for one shot synth sounds to add some colour but that’s about it.

The benefit it has over the DT as a sequencer is that it has 6 note polyphony as opposed to the DT’s 4 note, along with locking to a scale/mode.

You COULD use it as a MIDI controller for input to the DT if you like to play pads.

Circuit MIDI Out > DT IN. Use one of the synth tracks set to DT’s MIDI auto channel. Just turn down volume on Circuit’s synth channel. Now you can play notes in scale recorded into the DT.

If you are located in Europe, I have a Circuit for sale!

This sounds like a great way to use them together.

I have an mpd 24 & 26 and a beatstep all have decent pads to use with the digitakt.

@RandomSkratch it looks like the circuit in midi mode is what I’m looking for, a bit redundant but it would be nice to play DT samples in chords using fewer voices, via pads with 6 double AAs. Also I’m hoping I can get the pattern chain from Circuit to get a song mode out of the DT.

@Uija I wish I was located in Europe, thanks for the offer.

The pattern chain function on Circuit is essentially the same as pattern chain on DT. They aren’t saved with sessions and must be created each time it’s powered on.

Check out Ehsan Gelsi his youtube channel:

He uses both the Digitak and Circuit together with other synths. He is awesome!

The Digitone is a real Pad monster as well. Plus it fits perfectly next to your Digitakt :slightly_smiling_face: doesn’t has pads but the great sequencer as the Digitakt.

Ha - I love me a good Ricky Tinez video. One of my favourite presenters on YouTube
