Well, i am not sure really; the new synclavier regen looks and sounds nice. Freds Lab Manatee too. Physical modelling is very interesting atm, the anyma phi for a desktop unit maybe… Mayer have s new one, but famn its expensive!
No, i think it might be something i build myself, like the Kasser DAFM Genesis lately, but with a case i design and get printed by a friend. We will see, time will tell. I cant afford anything expensive for a long while anyway…
Oh, and i am not really missing anything, but with the Plonk that’s in the mail i fill the physical modelling hole too… Otherwise, that would be it!
Aren’t they very expensive now? I sold mine for 150 EUR and still don’t regret it. Pain in the neck with that 19” gear, and compared to LXR02, m:c, DN, ST: very cumbersome to program useful stuff and no live capable sequencer.
eBay prices are a bit nuts right now, but the Elektronaut selling theirs had what seemed like a reasonable asking price at the time.
It would be silly to spend $1k on a TX802 when you can get an EssenceFM for a little bit more, new. But if you are looking for 8 independent FM parts, the 802 definitely does that.
Just my 2 cents but I’m for drums I’d rather have the tx81z instead of the 802. still 8 parts but easier to use with 4ops, save in size, save a lot of $$, and has a little more gritty old school character.
Erica Synths LXR 02 Sonic Potions or Modor DR-2 look like fun digital drum machines. I am seriously considering the LXR to pair with my Digitone for an ultra compact fly rig.
Kodamo actually gives you 16 independent fm parts, where each part can be layered too. With 300 note polyphony…and independent effects…
Tried lots of ext seq, but i really like bitwig so… And i have built and used/tested 170+ megacommand units (ext seq and much more) for Machinedrum so i dont feel i am missing something. Maybe a separate advanced sequencer just for drums - i would like to have a good sequencer that can handle all my drum grooves, and bitwig the rest.
Any ideas there?
No digitalt or deluge, had them. But specialized for drums, with parameter locka and every other nicevthing, but most important excellent sync!
Korg ER-1 is a killer Digital drum machine and the spiritual successor Volca Drum
Not a machine but something I did with my Rytm a lot lately is combine its analog sounds with some samples from the modor. Someone in this community shared a sample pack of the modor, which I can highly recommend (Modor DR-2 Sample Pack by LØSTLVLS).
For digital drums I use the Korg Electribe 1,Nord drum & IV/01 aswell:))
@mbang have you though about an octatrack? it can perfectly be used as a drum machine and you could get all the flavors of sounds you like (digital, analog, acoustic, you name it)
I’m a huge fan of the MD and MnM myself (will take them to the grave!) and even if i think the OT have it’s own very pleasing digital sonic character, clearly those three have some common dna.
cool is that a drum machine?
Since it hasn’t been mentioned, what about the Waldorf Rack Attack? Multiple outs, unique machine, etc. They’re only available used and not the cheapest, but at least worth a look.
Hard to please, I‘d say
If money is no issue, buy them all, LXR-02 (I like), Jomox 888 (beware of the interface), DT, ST, m:c, Kawai R-100, Roland TR-505-626-707, TR-8S, TR-6S, blastbeats, all Volcas, MPC-1000, MPC-live, Force, Boss DR-202, Perkons
Can’t do anything wrong with these, either sustain their worth or are good for you.
You have ST and AR and MD already?
Oh, money is def an issue!
Only gas i have is dr-2, already have MD + RYTM2 and a 4-module euro drummer, this covers most needs i have. Only issue is Md that wont sync perfectly, but using a megacommand solves that to a large degree.
That‘s bad.
Well in that case - the AR is dispensible. The MD is too hard to come buy to let go. M:C could be worth a shot.
ST is a great machine, too, esp. when used with volca drum on the inputs. Would keep the ST.
Tried a ST, since i have Md and mnm there is zero need so sold it quickly. Model cycles brought nothing new.
The old machines… nah, nothing samole-based except if i make it myself!
As I said, hard to please
MM and MD have no polymeter, I thought?
So you’re looking for a drum synthesizer. Although you had everything except a Jomox Kick.

Wish it were !
Same here and property taxes plus medical bill shot my budget for next year as well but I have tons of gear so no complaints and workflow in place now that is portable and let’s me work a lot faster between modular and hardware synths and cross platform. I learned the hard way this weekend why one needs both a Windows PC and Mac to upgrade firmware. I really like Logic as a DAW even more so than Ableton, Cubase and Studio One and it only runs on Apple Mac. In studio one, I have to use audacity to clean recordings up. Logic works better for me.
