Long Midi chords

Hi, I’m trying to make some ambient minimal around 110 BPM lately but I want LONG chord progressions. 1 chord must be 64 steps long. How can I switch from chords without having to set up a new pattern for other chords with the same lengths. I think the octatrack isn’t made for this purpose or does anyone have a clever tip.

change the clock-dividor on your miditrack… it will make your steps last longer… a 1/4 division means 1 step = 4 normal steps… thus your pattern will be 256steps long in length. but you still have 64steps to program.

That’s the perfect solution there.

You could also look into a free running LFO attached to the notes in the chord, the idea being that each time chord is triggered it will be different. Playing around with the speed setting and maybe doing some quick math. I’ve had good luck getting it to rotate between 4 different chords before resetting.

I think I forgot to mention that I use the Midi tracks to control my waldorf blofeld wich plays the chords! But anyway that doesn’t change anything I assume? I’ll check your tips out tomorrow. Thanks.

Dreammer,

with clock divider, do you mean the 64/64 1x parameter? If I change this, it also changes the setting of the other tracks. That’s normal I guess? DO I lose any previous triggerrs with this?

Or do you mean something else?

Yes, I mean those: but you might be forgetting a step:
lets walk through it.
in non-recording-mode. press function+bank.
you will get this dialog where you can select if tracks are attached to sequencer / yes / no … and you can set the length of the main loop… (which is handy if you ever want to jump to another pattern… so don’t set that one to infinity)
after you done this… the dialog you get when you press function+scale setup, changes… now you can play with the clock dividor. and it will loop the way you set it… without disturbing other tracks…
that should do the trick.

Waw! Thanks man. I’ve read the full manual months ago but really forgot most of the things you don’t use the first times. =D
