Liven Mega Synthesis

He’s so happy to have it, it’s quite infectious watching a guy have his dreams come true

like Robert Johnson is to Led Zeppelin … I discover one of Cuckoo’s root influences https://youtu.be/XrlF7q-oyF8?t=1941

I must be slow on the uptake as didn’t realise before, after so many years enjoying his unique characterful compositions!

For those that have purchased, how are you enjoying the Mega Synthesis so far? After the honeymoon phase?

After waiting more than a couple of weeks, I just found this message from my order.

I will never preorder anything again.

I ordered (pre-ordered it would appear) from the Sonicware site.

Received this last week

The part about “scheduled shipping date” is interesting, as I never received any scheduled date.

Oh well, it’s late. It was a spur of the moment impulse buy, rather than a serious addition to my setup, so I’m in no hurry

Was the package signature required?

I don’t know. It never arrived at home. It was stuck in another city for days. I’m asking for a refund.

I still like it a lot. It shines with some velocity from an external controller.

The legacy mode for the synth sounds and sampled drums sound dirty and close enough to the original hardware for me that they make me smile.
The sequencer feels like it’s in the middle between a Volca and an Elektron. I know that’s a huge gap, but feels about right.

It’s nice, but I’m so into the Syntakt, Opsix and MS-20, the Mega Synthesis feels kind of excess.

I did get some eneloop batteries and take it with me for downtime at work. Having a dedicated and easy to work on portable synth/groovebox is great, but I’ll probably only ever use it on its own.

That really bites. I’m sad to read that.

It’s already pretty nerve wracking knowing something you’ve paid for is getting shuffled around a postage system with varying degrees of care.

Did you get in contact with Sonicware or get a refund or anything yet?

Yes, I’ve contacted today for a refund.

The person in the videos is using this with a high level of skill but I can’t say that it sounds like genesis / md on an integral level. Pretty good considering the price point and the functionality that these sonicware machines bring to the table though.

You can tell the emulation is distinctly different from the 8 bit warps for example.

Yeah, I suppose if you want near perfect you’re doing it on a Catskull, MegaFM or software.

If you’re curious, what I mean by Catskull is this GenMDM:

Dude, I’m impressed though. I’ve got a cobbled together demo live soon, but now that I’m digging around YouTube for other recordings I’m blown away.

Here we go. Some of my not particularly well organized patterns.

It came out of a gatchapon machine!
I got the CD addon first try, but I really wanted a model 1 or 2.

Man, I remember when this guy I knew got sega cd which I think was just the add on machine but it seemed so powerful at the time. I remember playing sewer shark and night trap mostly, although I think there were a few more cd games that we played.

I mean realistically in the early 90’s that was pretty powerful for a home game console lol.

Those are about the only decent games for the Sega CD! And the Ecco soundtrack got enhanced I think. Never had any addons myself aside from Sonic & Knuckles if that counts.

Well… Bit of an early Easter egg.

That higher octave arp bit is me putting a little sugar on it.
