Livecoding the Elektron Octatrack with ORCΛ

In this video I use two of my favorite song writing tools: the Elektron Octatrack MK2 and ORCA by Hundred Rabbits. If you are interested in learning how to program sequences in ORCA I have made a few tutorials on how to get started. You can find the links to them in the YouTUbe video description

A quick look at the GitHub reveals an esoteric visual language. I’m immediately reminded of this visual language built around Arabic calligraphy:

https://nas.sr/قلب/

I’ll definitely be adding this to my list of fun programming things to dive into, near the top.

Works better with the OT now than any other device i’ve found since you can change the way the tracks respond to midi i.e. triggering slices vs chromatic notes.

Yeah it’s super fun, I’ve been using it since its release! Been a good time

That’s very cool! I’ve been experimenting with some MIDI stuff with the Elektron boxes in Supercollider and also plain old Python, but still don’t have a very musical flow down. I need more free time to spend on it  I haven’t looked into Orca yet, but it seems pretty cool.

Do you send the OT MIDI program changes from Orca, to change patterns?

Thanks for sharing. I’ll check out the rest of your videos

Thank you for the kind words! You can send just about any MIDI message via ORCA but I wasn’t sending anything but channel/note data. Now that the OT has the CC in controls per track on the OT it’s crazy fun to live code the OT. ORCA is fairly simple to grasp but can get complex pretty quickly - though you can get great results with the most basic operations like Euclidian sequencing which it has natively.

Nice patch @mpiecora ,
do you know if there is a sync (MIDI clock) option for ORCA (either direction)?
