Live Set Midi Question with OT

So, my RYTM is the master, with the Octatrack slaved, however I would like to use my novation 25SL MK2 to control volume, solo, mute etc (on the OT as it is the performance mixer). I’ve already mapped the midi, but I’m confused as to how I could add it in-between the RYTM and OT. I prefer using the song mode in the RYTM and I don’t have enough time to learn and re-program using the OT’s arranger.
I have midi from the RYTM going into OT and DIN SYNC from the RYTM clocking modular. I did have the RYTM slaved to the OT, but this didn’t suit my workflow, this had the Novation controller at the top of the chain. Not sure how to work this round…

You want the MIDI keyboard to control both the AR and OT? Or only OT?

Well either way I think you just need a midi splitter or two. Plug a splitter into the OT’s midi in effectively giving it an extra in. So AR out to OT in 1, and then 25SL out to OT in 2.

Hi, The RYTM is just sending sync and program change. I only want to control the mixer functions on the OT.
Thanks for your help!
Chris

You have two control devices, so you need a merger, not a splitter.

That said, you might be able to wire it up like this, because Elektrons will echo MIDI data through the OUT socket in some configurations.

SL Out > RYTM IN
RYTM OUT > OT IN

… if you use a combination of correctly set auto-channels, and perhaps losing a track on the AR so you can have it forward the MIDI data from the SL.

Hi,
Would using the splitter in reverse, with the two midi signals plugged in the OT not work as a merger?
I can sacrifice the FX Midi channel on the rytm, doing your method…
Thanks again!
Chris

I confess to not having used either. My gut feeling is that Merging needs decision-making logic where splitting/replicating might not.

Interesting, yep some logic or filtering would make sense, to stop it turning into a garbled mess of signals…
Thanks again.

I have used my Midi solutions midi merger for something pretty similar….OT out (OT master) and Q25 midi keyboard out MERGED into RYTM midi in. AOK.
