Live gig road case recommendations?

I use two Elektron boxes among a bunch of similar and similarly-sized gear for live gigs and am struggling to come up with the ideal road case solution to transport it all, struggling with whether there’s an option where everything could be somewhat ‘pre-wired’ at least for MIDI, etc.

Anyone gone though this already so I can avoid reinventing the wheel? I know some people like to rack Elektron boxes inside a pop-up mixer case but I’m not really interested in racking them or dedicating one case to just the Elektron boxes.

Any examples/advice appreciated! Thanks.

More stuff under the sliding shelf DP/4 and MKS-30…

I have all my live gear (OT, nord G2 engine, novation remote zero) velcroed to an IKEA Gorm shelf unit and I have a Pelican case that fits the whole thing in it. I use Pelican 1600, but they have tons of sizes and shapes and there’s gotta be one to fit your gear. It’s worked well for me on planes, trains, and automobiles (also busses).

Here’s a pic of the stuff in the case: https://twitter.com/SpeakOnion/status/317493749594869760/photo/1

I use one of these nowadays: http://www.thomann.de/gb/thomann_producer_backpack.htm - an Octatrack and Machinedrum fit in it perfectly with pockets for power supplies + multiplug etc. I just have to unpack and connect 4 audio leads and a midi lead + psu’s and I’m ready to go.

I’ve also got a Stagg guitar pedal board that can fit an MD & OT easily and has room for something like a Virus TI and all the PSU’s as well.

Its velcro lined and comes with velcro to stick on your kit for transport. You would need to cut some foam to fit in it if you were sticking it on a plane though imo. Its a sturdy bit of kit and you can pre-wire everything so its ready to play in seconds, but its the size of a guitar case so I mainly use the Thomann one if I can - the Stagg one spends most of its time as a table split up an A-frame stand in the studio

Hey, what’s the name and model of this case? Also how many ‘u’ slots in total? This is exactly what I need!

…oh…i did…full on…

it’s been an endless chain of solutions i had to master…with all failures and all succes u can ask for…
lot’s of traps…and i’ve seen them all…

so if u answer some essential questions first…i’m ur man…

how will u travel…and how often…?

what must be in the box exactly?

what kind of stages we’re talking about…

what kind of crowds u gonna tease?

what kind of performance are u really perfoming…

are u left hand or right hand…

there is never a 100% solution…but 99% can be done and made sure of whatever comes…
with the right balance between knowing the traps, how much to invest and what it needs to suit u…
get me started…i’m in this shit since a lifetime…

This was an old thread I found but I also need these questions answering  I think I’ve found a nice solution using a pelican gun case (1770 Long case). I basically need something that I can take out, everything all wired in so theres no rushing at festivals etc. I want it to be ergonomically slanted too for performance. So I thought if I get a wooden board that just fits into the case and cut holes for the gear and sink them into the wood attached by rack ears. I could then get some wooden blocks, possibly around six as legs, these legs can be squared at the bottom but slanted at the top, closest legs been shorter to create the slant. Im thinking of having all wiring underneath the top wooden board and handles on the sides to move it. If I want to cover everything around the edges I could use thinner board to screwed onto the sides of the legs to keep the weight at a minimum. The other thing I wanted to cover was to be able to get home after a tour and avoid having to take all the gear out and back into studio rack mounts. So I thought I could detach the legs so I’m left with just the top board/gear and build a slanted mounting unit enclosure on my desk so i sink it in and screw it on.
This is the gear for touring and preferable placement:
Analog Four (Bottom left)
Analog Rytm (Right of A4)
Moog slim phatty (Above A4)
Patch Bay (Above Slim phatty)
Bitstream 3X (Above Rytm)
Novation Launchpad (Right of Rytm)
Focusrite Liquid Saffire 56 sound card (Undecided placement, pretty big unit!)
Macbook pro 15
USB Hub
Guitar and PODHD500X
Im planning on shortening elektron rack instead of having them 19" so the Rytm, A4 and launchpad will sit flush below the moog and bitstream.
The gun case is huge but I will probably expand the setup anyway and add some FX units.
Let me know if you can add to this idea or have a better way  thanks!

…first things always first…

…so let’s fix the common sense, all basic options to be fulfilled for this 99% solution when it come to live rigs…

what makes the that perfect live rig…?

  • it must suit all your needs and what it needs to get the job done at any time under all condotions with satisfaction for everybody who’s involved in any way…

the biggest threads…

-transport
-sound
-sustainabilty
-fun while doing it
-applause at the end

i will do my best to make sure of all this for individul solutions once the thread starter here get me started…

but the essential questions i asked him in first place must be answered by everyone who wants my thoughts on this topic…

in your case, the first thing i got to say…
my biggest failure i always trapped again and again no matter how smart i was trying to get all aspects become one smart thing was …having too much at once, getting too heavy all in all…
sounds all nice and clever what u got on your mind…but that’s the first danger line you have to face…
but we will gt there…
