Link DN patterns to OT patterns?

I feel dumb. I’ve enabled PC outs on the OT and PC in on the DN, assuming that changing OT patterns will change DN patterns accordingly. It doesn’t. What could I be missing ?

Do you use MIDI > SYNC page?
Are your PC midi channels corresponding?
(btw, beware of OT AUTO setting, it doesn’t correspond to AUTO channel)

Ch: Auto (10) on both machines.

I recommend not to use that (PC SEND) AUTO parameter on OT.
I’d set it to 10 in your case.

CHANNEL sets which channel the Octatrack should send program change messages on. The LEVEL knob is used to change this setting. If AUTO is chosen the first MIDI channel used by the audio tracks, and not used by any of the MIDI tracks, will be used. If CHANNEL is set to a specific MIDI channel, that channel will be used to transmit program change messages

With default settings, AUTO corresponds to channel 1 (Track 1).

I don’t get it.
I just set both to ch. 11. Patterns should be linked, shouldn’t they ?

They should if you set OT like this

And DN Program Change set to Receive on channel 11.

Does Transport / Clock sync work?

Thanks for your time. Notes and Clock are properly sent and received.
I monitored the MIDI out of the OT, the PC are sent when a pattern is launched.
But in the DN, patterns don’t follow the OT.

Just to be sure, I suppose you checked PROG CH RECEIVE and set PROG CHG IN CH to 11 (or Auto, with Auto Ch set to 11, I’d try both)…
Maybe a DN user have the answer…

Yep ! Any help from a DN user ? Thanks @sezare56

Do you have “ch length” set to inf on DT ? If so patterns never change.

That was it ! Thanks !

Well, DN loses one or two steps at each pattern change…
i’ve set “ch length” in each DN pattern to 16, and OT patterns are either 32 or 16 step long. On the DN, pattern length are per track.
I tried with DN patterns set to “per pattern”, and it seems to works ok in this situation.
So the problem seems to be only with “per track” DN patterns.

There is a bug, apparently. Just sent a sysex to the support, but if anyone could test this, as I cannot upload anything here apparently :

  • make a 16 step pattern
  • set it to “per track”
  • for each track, LENGTH 16/16, SCALE 1X, CH.LEN 16, M.LEN INF. (This should make it act as a 16 step pattern with “per pattern” setting)
  • copy it to a 2nd Pattern slot.
  • Play it. Then Play the Copy.

The first step is repeated.
Then everything is normal.
Hit stop. The bug is re-enabled.

I would gladly appreciate bug confirmation, or help.

Thanks !

I heard about this kind of bug with MD, slaved by OT.
From @drone.

I don’t think it’s the same problem. It seems to be a bug with “per track” setting (as the equivalent pattern but with “per pattern” setting works fine). There is no “per track” length on the MD.

Bug confirmed by Elektron and fixed in the next firmware.

Doing the good work @chapelierfou

Bug fixed in Digitone 1.30 apparently.
I did not test it for now, though.
