Did you have to pay something like $112 to the postal service upon delivery? I noticed that the product page has outdated information regarding de minimis charges.
I was fortunate, I bought mine secondhand (from Reverb) for a nice discount. When it arrived, it came in a box from Perfect Circuit, so if that was where they got it, I assume they just bought it from their web store and didn’t get along with it all in a matter of months.
My Monolit already had a journey, it traveled from Tokyo to Burbank to Massachusetts and now to me here in San Jose, CA.
Omg wow. Sequence Edit. You guys are insane.
In which case I’d also second @Fleuw ‘s suggestion of unquantized recording of MIDI if that’s even possible.
One thing is unclear to me: is the Monolit a USB host?
From the manual:
CONNECTIVITY: Connect external devices via TRS MIDI Type A, USB-C, and USB Host inputs.
Then it says:
HARDWARE INPUT AND OUTPUTS
MONOLIT features three connection ports: USB-C, TRS MIDI Type-A, and USB 2.0 Type-A.
USB-C
The USB-C connection allows MONOLIT to interface with external devices sending MIDI messages directly over the USB-C cable.
TRS
The TRS connection sends MIDI messages out from MONOLIT. This enables the device to function as a MIDI hub.
USB 2.0 TYPE-A
This is used for connecting USB MIDI controllers and gamepads. This provides flexible control options, allowing you to use devices that lack traditional MIDI ports. USB 2.0 ensures reliable performance, broad compatibility, and easy setup.
I think this means that the USB Type-A 2.0 port can host controllers. But USB-C cannot. @dza can correct me if I’m wrong.
New 2.0 beta is out. Gonna play with it later today
If you get the chance, would you care describing the setup in which you use the Monolit?
I am planning to get one in order to use it with the M8 only.
Not sure yet how relevant it would be in this use case, though - i.e. if the cost is justified.
So far ive been using it with Tempera only and works pefectly. Gonna try out the sequencer laters today….looks fun ![]()
I had a m8 before and i think if u want more direct control over parameters in the M8 its a good option.
Thanks for your replies.
Yes, the M8, while great, comes with a number of inconvenience, and sometimes lacks in the hands-on department.
I’m particularly interested in the LFO features of the Monolit: I often automate EQ parameters on M8, but the process is quite cumbersome (you need to dedicate a MIDI instrument for that, then touch-assign an EQ parameter, then change the modulation destination and source in the matrix…)
I hope to use the Monolit LFOs to do that instead, if possible at all.
Dropping a loose improvisation session with Monolit and a Sid Station on the new beta firmware!
Anybody have a good case they’d recommend for the Lightreft?
No i bought mine with the optional bag. Works fine but would recommend some lid of some sort
