I spent some good time making beats with Life and I thought SAVE BEAT would save the whole shortlist. Alas, I lost everything… I’m gutted. Why on earth would they chose to make it complicated to save as many variations of a beat as we want?
Also the variations, the parameters and especially the lengths are quite limited. The concept is great but it can be refined and become a great app/plugin to generate ideas pretty fast.
I did eventually figure it out, but it’s been awhile since I used it and I can’t remember exactly how. I think that whatever variation you currently have open, if you click save then it will save that variation as part of the file. I believe you can save up to 6 variations per file?
And then when you go to load a file, there will be six little buttons beside it, each one representing a saved variation, and you have to choose which variation to load.
I’m not sure you can load up all your variations at once though. It’s totally messy and needlessly confusing. But I for sure HAVE been able to save variations so I know there is a way
That’s what I thought but it actually saves only the current beat (and not the actual shortlist). So each time, I thought I was saving the whole variations, I was overwriting and saving only the last variation…
Yeah it does not save the whole shortlist which is super annoying. And it will overwrite and only save the last variation.
So what you have to do, is select and save each variation one at a time and name them something different I believe. Then, when you are loading that beat next time, you should be able to pick from which variation you want to load, represented by colored buttons
(But you can’t load all variations at once again which sucks!)
I often make field recordings with the Life app but always forgot to open the plug in. Today I opened the plug in. Holy sh.t! This thing is amazing. Really groovy stuff
I don’t understand why they couldn’t have made the app for our phones too, they have enough power in them, I’d like to be able to do it all on one device
catching random snippets of daily whatevernoisesoundcrumbletunepeepklickwiff…
and just fool around with that in the plugin…
i don’t bother to export or transfer slices…
whenever i get somewhere intresting with it, i just bounce that loop…do some further finetune tweaks for further variations of that, bounce that, too…and there i go with nice never heard before groove beefed up loops of all sorts to get something cooking…
once somethings starts cooking for real, i drop some of the already established elements into it and mingle those up to achieve nice shadows of anything further down rhe arrangement route…it’s priceless for me…
little tip…once u bounce out any results, it’s also a good thing, to switch to the edit page and mute some lanes before bouncing the whole loop result…next level magic, whenever u come up with killer loops that don’t end up all in one same file, but two or three…
How are Lifers getting along with their Life VST? Still psyched? Essential plugin firmly planted in your workflow? Used a lot at first then dwindled down? Bought, used, shelved, forgotten?
50% sale so inquiring minds want to know where you and your Life stand.
I only wish that every single user who purchased Life would send them a request to make it possible to have the option to do it all on a phone or an ipad instead of the mandatory to step solution they have now… I hate having to wait til I get back to a computer or pull one out inconveniently… other than that it’s a keeper
put it this way, what if KITT couldn’t drive without Michael Knight, instead of knight Rider it would be Knight Walker, or even worse Knight-wait-for-Michael-to get-here-and-start-me-up.
