Anyone have experience with this reverb unit? Not much available on youtube.
Bump. I‘m wondering if anyone would be able to provide some insights on how the PCM92 works for lush Ambient reverbs and how it compares to the Eventide Space, Strymon Big Sky or the PCM native plugins in terms of quality.
There are some good threads over on ModWiggler.
I had an MX500, upgraded to 550, and it was a very solid, natural sounding reverb. It didn’t get as weird as the SRV3030 or Space.
It is a beautiful sounding unit with a bastard on an interface. It has super-deep tweakability if you care to menu-dive. To be fair I only used PCM 70/81/91 but I believe many of the algorithms are identical between 81,91, and 92.
Haven’t used Eventide Space, Big Sky or PCM Plugs, but PCM’s are industry standard, high-end units. It will not disappoint on sound or build quality. How it tickles your fancy for your particular needs is totally personal. When I was using hardware reverbs I always preferred TC, Eventide and even Yamaha SPX units to the PCM’s, just personal taste. If you really want the Lexicon sound I would go plugins all the way. These PCM’s are huge, heavy, expensive and a bitch to program.
Ok, thanks. Will try the PCM plugins. They are from 2010 as it seems and I‘m just wondering if they sound as high quality as the PCM 92/96 when it comes to dealing with artefacts etc. Maybe they got improved over time adopting to faster/multi CPUs unless they haven’t been perfect from the beginning
